Mynameislegion commented on Kaffie's post: Is there some kind of torrent that contains all the studies?
Mynameislegion commented on Mynameislegion's post: @43110: Okay I will remove the files then and only retain the torrents :) I will magnetise my links once I find time to do so...
Mynameislegion commented on Mynameislegion's post: @Jayofthezero: Indeed, umatrix is very helpful for checking that.
Mynameislegion commented on Mynameislegion's post: @43110: I guess it is because I have added the files in the torrents to the optional files as well. I was just looking into uploading them to ZeroUp, but the upload file size is limited to 200 MB. I wonder if I just delete them and only host the torrent files.

Mynameislegion commented on ZAlex's post: “A state, is called the coldest of all cold monsters. Coldly lieth it also; and this lie creepeth from its mouth: "I, the state, am the people." It is a lie! Creators were they who created peoples, and hung a faith and a love over them: thus they served life. Destroyers, are they who lay snares for many, and call it the state: they hang a sword and a hundred cravings over them. Where there is still a people, there the state is not understood, but hated as the evil eye, and as sin against laws and customs.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra

Mynameislegion commented on Mkg20001's post: Now what is the advantage of Ubuntu Gnome over an Arch distro like Antergos?
Mynameislegion commented on Nofish's post: @Kaffie: that's exactly what I was thinking - I started listening to their podcasts because a few talks really impressed me, but ended up skipping through more than half of them. Quite many are fruitless talks about topics that were discussed hundreds of times (how to behave if you want to successful/not depressive/ beautiful, race, gender, sex).
Mynameislegion commented on Nofish's post: As was suggested, maybe you should do your promo talk anyways and put it on youtube. Did they give any specific reason for why they cancelled (apart from blabla right time, I mean why did they contact you in the first place?) TED are possibly worried about something that could negatively affect their image. My theories: 1. Is it the bunch fascists/homophobes/antisemites on the promoted ZeroTalk site who would totally screw ZeroNets (and TED's) image? I mean everyone who visits ZeroNet for the first time goes to the default sites first, and if they see some nazi crap right on the first page they may just leave without digging deeper. And TED obviously would not promote something that looks at the first glance like a fascist forum. 2. file sharing 3. They believe that the terrorists may fall in love with this fine piece of technology.

Mynameislegion commented on Mynameislegion's post: @Yinyue: I am afraid that the West is slowly moving towards a similar system - governments here use the fear of terrorism to legalise laws that allow them to record your browsing behaviour. Also they are talking about breaking encryption/building backdoors. Once they notice that more people start using VPN/TOR to protect their privacy, they will find a terrorist that uses this software and ban it, too. 10 years ago people here said that only dictatures like China surveill the internet. You were called paranoid if you said that the USA would do it too. Thanks to Snowden we all know it but everyone shrugs their shoulders. No protests. People here are too lazy, passive and uninterested - as long as they do not ban fast food, football, cars, beer and iPhones no one will care.
Mynameislegion commented on Mynameislegion's post: @Yinyue: Is VPN/TOR/ZeroNet something you would discuss with friends or do you need to be careful when talking about such topics? My parents used to live in a totalitarian state and there were many secret informants who would report their "friends" to the authorities.
Mynameislegion commented on Mynameislegion's post: @Yinyue: Also, how many young people in China know about VPN/ TOR? Do only a few nerds escape the bubble?
Mynameislegion commented on Mynameislegion's post: @Yinyue: I am interested in life in China - I read your government has plans to use big data (e.g. browsing histories, social media posts) to give citizens ratings, which then decide whether you get a credit or can travel to another country. Is that true? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Credit_System
Mynameislegion commented on Mynameislegion's post: @Yinyue: In the West the Hollywood action movies nearly always depict the Russians, Middle-Easterners or sometimes Chinese as evil guys - according to the current political agenda. For example it is so surreal to watch Rambo's 80s movies with Taliban as "freedom fighters". You can even find that pattern in computer games like Call of Duty. What never changes, is that the Americans are the spotless saviours. Often the critical media does not get enough attention and drowns in the noise of celebrity news and fear of terrorism.
Mynameislegion commented on Mynameislegion's post: @Yinyue: Is it true that the Japanese are not liked by a lot of people in Asia?

Mynameislegion commented on Plasmmer's post: So it is basically a democratic github? If you could implement that on ZeroNet then it will be as democratic as it can get.
Mynameislegion commented on Kaffie's post: @Plasmmer: Post it, I am interested in your concept :)
Mynameislegion commented on Kaffie's post: @Plasmmer: I like your idea with a voting system, but how would you implement it? As it is fairly easy to create several instances of ZeroNet, such feature could also be used to attack a site. To prevent that, you may have to e.g. limit these votes to the longest seeders. But keeping metadata about seeders is a bad idea - it may help attackers locate the site owner.
Mynameislegion commented on Kaffie's post: @Plasmmer: I wish I would share your optimism regarding good people being the majority. I mean yes, we are, but unfortunately our society encourages people to be ignorant and selfish - "good consumers and citizens". Just look at USA, this is also slowly happening in Europe - the masses are easily fooled. History repeats itself. I can really recommend watching Adam Curtis, e.g. "Hypernormalisation" or "Century of the self".

It is possible to search by isbn, so I could try to webscrape data with python so you can put it on the page if you have the isbns

Mynameislegion commented on Firebox's post: @Kaffie: I guess removing the cloning feature from the GUI would help. If someone is willing to create a quality content and maintain it, then they will put effort in it and read the wiki, build a page from scratch or at least copy from the folder of another page. A missing GUI option will never stop a dedicated user, but a learning curve can be a "child safe" to stop the noobs from spamming the network.

First I tried making everything apart from English optional but still this generates a content.json which is 1.7 MB large as everything gets indexed. I wonder if it is possible to e.g. create one language_x.json per subfolder, which indexes that subfolder's contents, so that in the main content.json I can then: 1. "include" the language_x.json files and 2. "ignore" the data that is already indexed by language_x.json files Ideally, this would result in 1 content.json and optional 26 language_x.json files with optional content and the page could be served quickly. I really hope there is a way to do that - obviously this is something that affects many site hosts.

The difficulty is that this would need to be blockchain based (every user could be a node), as centralising would mean that whoever controls the central server controls what content can be published = censorship. That said, I see the advantage in your approach as it would only apply at user level not globally.

Mynameislegion commented on Shellbound's post: @Shellbound: Brexit was not just the result of wrong claims made by the leave campaign - corporate media such as the Daily Mail & Sun spread lies about the EU for decades until people started accepting them as truth. In comparison with other countries Britain has a very strong right wing press. And this example highlights one of the issues: big media organisations which are very influential on public opinion must be held accountable for misinformation/fearmongering. It is unbelievable that the punishment for printing a big fat lie on the front page and is an apology in small print on the last page a few weeks later. If you want "good" journalism in the free market, then the penalties for bad journalism must exceed the profits that can be gained from "clickbait".

Mynameislegion commented on Shellbound's post: @Bravo: No matter if corporate, blog or twitter - the big question is how "truth" can be defined? Is something true, just because it sounds convincing, is shared by a person you respect, gets repeated a thousand times, matches your personal experiences or the majority accepts it as truthful? In my opinion, human thought is nonobjective and therefore every piece of journalism is coloured by the bias of its writer. With that in mind, I would say that it makes sense to mix all possible news sources and see the "big picture". One site I can recommend is the https://theintercept.com/ Also I think Wikileak's concept is interesting - just publish the source and cut out the "man in the middle".
Mynameislegion commented on ks's post: Maybe a firewall that supports protocol preference per-application? Or run it in a vm and disable ipv4 on that machine? https://serverfault.com/questions/269599/disabling-ipv4-and-use-only-ipv6-in-ubuntu http://testingfreak.com/change-enabledisable-ipv4-ipv6-computer-windows/
Mynameislegion commented on Shellbound's post: I agree that this is an issue - what do you mean by "public funded"? Often public-funded means government-funded what is e.g. the BBC in the UK. If an outlet is government-funded, it will always portray the government positively in order to secure funds. The problem is, that ZeroNet and duckduckgo are for nerds - people won't leave their walled gardens until shit hits the fan.

Next, I would need to edit the json and move the files that shall become optional from "files" to "files_optional"? Plus publish again of course.
Mynameislegion commented on Mynameislegion's post: @Tkarita: @FraYoshi: Ahaha yes corrected. So I know I can add these optional files, but even without optional files it will be like 31MB big. @Jackyggg: It is official AppImage from the beaker's github page. Now I remember that issue. Try to move it to your home directory. After that the app has started to work on my system (Debian Stretch).

@Sksn: I download it from ZeroUp finaly, it's so cool that you made a AppImage format application, but when I run it, I got this error message,I have tried it in 2 linux distro ,but the same error.

The OFFSHORE LEAKS DATABASE

This ICIJ database contains information on almost 500,000 offshore entities that are part of the Panama Papers, the Offshore Leaks and the Bahamas Leaks and some from politicians featured in the Paradise Papers investigation. The data covers nearly 40 years up to early 2016 and links to people and companies in more than 200 countries and territories.

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Nov 08, 2017Reply

@43110: Okay I will remove the files then and only retain the torrents :) I will magnetise my links once I find time to do so...

@Mynameislegion: You can use Magnetier or other tools to convert Torrents to Magnet links, share these kind of sources in zeronet, text is much powerful than files.

Torrents ---> magnet links

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Nov 08, 2017Reply

@43110: I guess it is because I have added the files in the torrents to the optional files as well. I was just looking into uploading them to ZeroUp, but the upload file size is limited to 200 MB. I wonder if I just delete them and only host the torrent files.

43110 · 43110@zeroid.biton Nov 05, 2017Reply

@Mynameislegion: fuckcf.cf is I know, but it is down. by the way, you can just put the magnet links in your site, do not need torrent, so many torrents are too big.

The other day I read about the widely hyped Mastodon, a P2P Twitter clone - I considered signing up on the hub for security minded people, but then I read their terms - *"Information security enthusiasts and pros" will record your email and IP addresses.

Why do I get worried if a social network consists of private servers hosted by "security experts" who are keeping logs of IP addresses and emails?

(edit) *federated not P2P

Ranxerox · ranxerox@zeroid.biton Apr 07, 2017Reply

you can expose the IP on Zeronet_ if you really want to. It doesn't matter, ISP is logging your traffic as well. Use a VPN or Tor if you are worried. Mastodon is still better than Facebook.

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Apr 07, 2017Reply

@Nextbit: well in ZeroNet you can hardly link a post IP directly to the user. Also, you do not need an email to sign up here.

Nextbit · nextbit@zeroid.biton Apr 07, 2017Reply

recording IP addresses should not be a concern, everyone does that by default (ISPs, datacenters, .....). The solution is to find ways where it doesn't matter (which is not generate easily recognizable traffic like Tor!)

Ranxerox · ranxerox@zeroid.biton Apr 08, 2017Reply

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Apr 08, 2017Reply

@Ranxerox: maybe, because even military intelligence is not smart enough to distinguish medic from terrorist. For example dr. House is a medic, Gordon Freeman looks more like a terrorist in his power armour suit, this youtube video shows that both are the same guy! https://youtu.be/ehCwo7BMdes

@Yinyue: I am afraid that the West is slowly moving towards a similar system - governments here use the fear of terrorism to legalise laws that allow them to record your browsing behaviour.

Yinyue · yinyue@zeroid.biton Apr 01, 2017Reply

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Apr 01, 2017Reply

@Yinyue: In the West the Hollywood action movies nearly always depict the Russians, Middle-Easterners or sometimes Chinese as evil guys - according to the current political agenda.

Remove EXIF Metadata from Photos with exiftool (Linux)

Sometimes, it is a good idea to scrub EXIF metadata from photos before sharing them, and there is no better tool for the job than exiftool. The command below nukes all EXIF metadata in a photo in one fell swoop (replace foo.jpg with the actual file name):

exiftool -all= foo.jpg

This command removes EXIF metadata from the specified photo, but what if you need to process multiple photos? Then you can use the following command which cleans all the photos in the current directory:

How can I have two seeders on a blank site that I never published or shared? Does that have to do with using TOR?

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Mar 27, 2017Reply

Regarding the Tor possibility: It is easily possible, so long as you restart your ZeroNet daemon within about an hour of shutting it down; ZeroNet generates a new SSL cert at every startup by default, which results in a different set of onion addresses. While you CAN disable this functionality, short of hosting a ZeroNet proxy, I fail to see why you would. The tracker doesn't know who's at the other end of the Tor connection; it just logs that the peer at HfHLpTT2qRIO66Wa.onion has site BLAH, and so does peer dBpSkmZ45eCbF6tM.onion.

The Wikileaks section of ZeroLeakz is updated, it now looks more similar to the source http://file.wikileaks.org/ and includes the CIA files @http://127.0.0.1:43110/1DaXkbpBN7d9h78T5mjB2gTV9Ui46Bjwcv/wikileaks/torrent/index.zip/WikiLeaks-Year-Zero-2017-v1.7z.torrent. However, currently there are only the torrents. I am not sure if adding several hundreds of gigabytes to a ZeroNet site is a good idea....any opinions/suggestions?

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Mar 25, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: It is possible to ignore entire directories, so that should be no issue. I could simply ignore data/users/.* now I only need to figure out how to write each content.json

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Mar 25, 2017Reply

@Mynameislegion: Hence the idea of using user-submitted files (in the logistical sense, not public modification) to reduce the amount of time per change of the site. Store the content under some your data/users/KEYHERE directories, enable signs only from a cert auth under your control to disable public modification, and then the leak data needs hashed only once, as opposed to everything needing hashed for changing one character in your homepage :P I'll go do a quick test and see if the site owner's hashing also hashes a user's data.

EDIT: Just tested it, it seems as though unless it is ignored in the site's content.json via the "ignore": "(pregex)", object, it is also added to the site's content, meaning you will have to standardize or specify which files to ignore.

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Mar 25, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: You are right - zipping could slightly reduce the size and number of files and but it would still take ages to hash them. I also thought about using IPFS. The issue is, you also need people who are willing to seed these amounts of data and install IPFS.

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Mar 24, 2017Reply

@Emilie: Torrents are public without a VPN. Might turn some folks off of the idea of investigating without a safe way to download.

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Mar 24, 2017Reply

Directly dumping the multiple gigs of data will make A) your content.json swell up like a balloon, and B) make hashing all those files take ages, which must be done each and every time you wish to publish. Consider making a few pubkeys, perhaps even with your own signing authority (ZeroID clone?), and splitting up the data amongst them, so you only have to rehash a couple of gigs instead of the entire site each time you wish to publish.

Emilie · emilie@zeroid.biton Mar 24, 2017Reply

@Nofish: Great stuff, I will test it.

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Feb 27, 2017Reply

@Mynameislegion: Yeah, you need to change the .html files, here is a simple python script that do this for you:

import os, re

for root, dirs, files in os.walk("."):
    for file in files:
        if not file.endswith(".html"):
            continue
        data = open(root + "/" + file).read()
if not '<ul class="languages">' in data:

            continue

        content, footer = data.split('<ul class="languages">')

        new_footer = re.sub('(href="[\\./]+/[a-zA-Z-]+)/', "\\1.tar.gz/", footer)
        open(root + "/" + file, "w").write(content + '<ul class="languages">' + new_footer)
Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Feb 26, 2017Reply

@Nofish: Hi, first of all thank you very much for implementing this feature. If I zip each language in a separate file and access the page in en.zip, then click on a link that should take me to the Spanish page inside es.zip for example - would I need to change the links inside the index(en).html so that they point to the content inside the es.zip? As they are quite a few links, that would prove difficult - I may have to put everything inside the same zip if that was true...

P2P · p2p@zeroid.biton Feb 23, 2017Reply

@Nekocross: Not sure copy & paste the compiled one into python works. Efficient way is to file an issue to kivy's python-for-android project.

Nekocross · nekocross@zeroid.biton Feb 23, 2017Reply

@P2P: That's even easier. Find the source code, compile with android NDK

P2P · p2p@zeroid.biton Feb 23, 2017Reply

@Nekocross: Why do you always refuse to understand that any binary which can run on android must be compiled by Android NDK?

Nekocross · nekocross@zeroid.biton Feb 23, 2017Reply

@P2P: Debian package python-bz2 for armhf may contain binary which can be used on android.

P2P · p2p@zeroid.biton Feb 23, 2017Reply

@Nofish: Seems that Android has bz2 builtin, but I can't find a .so file of bz on my device. https://android.googlesource.com/platform/external/bzip2/+/master/README.android
IMO the best way to shoot it is to file an issue to kivy's python-for-android project. I hope someone who has a github account would like to do that.

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Feb 23, 2017Reply

@P2P: Then I think I will remove bz2 support for now. We add it later if the problems associated with it has be solved.

P2P · p2p@zeroid.biton Feb 22, 2017Reply

@Nofish: THX for your info. But these posts are not related directly to python-for-android, and they are too complicated for me, even worse, the last post also indicates that bz2 compiling fails.

P2P · p2p@zeroid.biton Feb 22, 2017Reply

@Nofish: yes, works! THX! in chrome it shows helló, but in ff it shows helló. after change ff's encoding to unicode, it shows helló too.

P2P · p2p@zeroid.biton Feb 22, 2017Reply

@Nofish: Unfortunately, bz2 module is still missing on android, I re-complied after installing libbz2-dev, no luck. Even kivy official launcher has the problem. So we need someone to file an issue to python-for-android project.

P2P · p2p@zeroid.biton Feb 20, 2017Reply

@Nofish: I think the bz2 problem can be solved if we compile python carefully. Maybe bz2 is good for many-similar-files compression, probably save much bandwidth on ZeroNet. You know, CPU is much faster than internet speed.

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Feb 20, 2017Reply

@P2P: Well if it's that problematic, then we remove the .bz2 support.
Most of the cases it offers around 20% better compression rate compared to tar.gz, but it takes around 2x more cpu to decompress.
But for example the sample site in bz2: 247kb, in tar.gz: 485k
I will check utf8 support in archives.

P2P · p2p@zeroid.biton Feb 20, 2017Reply

@Nofish: Is there a chance to support reading non-ASCII name files archived into .zip via ZeroNet webUI?

'Anonymized' User Data Not Really Anonymous

"The programs were able to find patterns among the different groups of data and use those patterns to identify users. The researchers note that the method is not perfect, and it requires a social media feed that includes a number of links to outside sites. However, they said that "given a history with 30 links originating from Twitter, we can deduce the corresponding Twitter profile more than 50 percent of the time."

The researchers had even greater success in an experiment they ran involving 374 volunteers who submitted web browsing information. The researchers were able to identify more than 70 percent of those users by comparing their web browsing data to hundreds of millions of public social media feeds.

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Jan 24, 2017Reply

@Fractal: I would like to use the socks5 offered by a VPN service. I know openVPN but with the current setup it won't work...

I'm using it with ssh tunnel; "ssh -L 43110:localhost:43110 you@yourserver.com" and you can reach it at http://localhost:43110 (while the communication happens via the ssh tunnel). If you want to be more fancy, you can use sslh, as it accepts ssh connection (among with https / openvpn) via port 443 which is even less likely to notify. So your zeronet instance only have to listen on 127.0.0.1 - is this what you're looking for?

Zerg · zerg@zeroid.biton Nov 13, 2016Reply

@Firebox: I think, It's not their fault (at least, not entirely).

Their perception of "free" is based on the ad-financed services (while "free facebook / twitter / etc" means that you pay the fee when buying from any firms who are advertising on it, and companies are kind of forced to do so, to keep up with the competition). But it's only my opinion :)

Zerg · zerg@zeroid.biton Nov 13, 2016Reply

IPFS is p2p.

my opinion: file sharing sites don't use it because they get money by making users dependent on them (and sell services / display ads) But with IPFS, it's not possible, because it's decentralized. It's only good for the people, but they don't tend to support something that's good for everyone (I'm thinking of this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tragedy_of_the_commons )

Alex (Bwoi) · bwoi@zeroid.biton Sep 23, 2016Reply

I had Ubuntu OS on my old Nexus 4 back last year (not much has changed) and it felt quite empty and left a lot to be desired. The UI/UX was very innovative though and I really wish that they would let Android apps at least run in some shape or form on the OS, because right now there aren't enough apps for me to go "yep, switching to this" at all. Maybe if they made it easier to port? Last time I tried making an app it took me twice the time that it would usually do for an Android device, though that was probably due to the fact that I was still getting used to everything (SDK layout, functions etc)

Shellbound · shellbound@zeroid.biton Aug 26, 2016Reply

ohh... and the UX is more user friendly than Android. The apps are not all as comparable in quality though. I do however mostly run native apps. For me they are good enough.

Shellbound · shellbound@zeroid.biton Aug 26, 2016Reply

Really good actually.. as you can run Android apps on it. The Jolla is starting to get aged though so it might be better if you could get your hands on an Jolla C or Intex with SailfishOS. There are also several ports for Android phones you could flash but it will not come with the Alien Dalvik (apk) support. There where talks about support for Yotaphone and Fairphone2. Not sure how that went.

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Aug 26, 2016Reply

@Shellbound: How does it compare with Android?

Shellbound · shellbound@zeroid.biton Aug 26, 2016Reply

I own a Jolla with SailfishOS and would recommend it.. I doubt Ubuntu Phone has reached the same maturity as SailfishOS. I can not tell (except from reviews I have seen) as I have not tried it myself. Jolla is made by previous Nokia employees.

Musickiller · musickiller@zeroid.biton Aug 22, 2016Reply

@Mynameislegion: can't access. finds 17 peers, but does not download

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Aug 22, 2016Reply

it's not hardcoded you can change using --fileserver_port. you can find other options via zeronet.py --help

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Aug 22, 2016Reply

@Musickiller: I hope so - can you do me a favour and check if you can access http://127.0.0.1:43110/1LtFS31Q11swyo1zWLmyxZRafBSbu86SeL/

Musickiller · musickiller@zeroid.biton Aug 22, 2016Reply

@Blacksquad: it's python. nothing is hardcoded =D in emergency, you can search 15441 with a text editor and find where it is "hardcoded". But I think, Nofish has a better option...

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 22, 2016Reply

@Mynameislegion: Yes, the port is needed in order to serve files to the network. Though using Tor can help get around the need. Let me know if you get either your port opened or get Tor setup, and I'll help seed your site.

Ask if you have issues.

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Aug 22, 2016Reply

@Jayofthezero: No, I spent hours trying to get it opened...do you think that's the reason for why it fails to downlaod the file?

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 21, 2016Reply

Is your port open?

Tkarita · tkarita@zeroid.biton Aug 21, 2016Reply

@Mynameislegion: ZeroNet always tries to download content.json from someone else, even if you own the site. It seems to need at least five peers to have a good chance of uploading for the first time and then downloading. Large sites might be slow to transfer the file.

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Aug 21, 2016Reply

@Musickiller: I wonder why - it tells me the content.json is missing. But hey, it is there in the folder. Have you got any suggestions?

As @ZAlex: said, either in the Zeronet slide-out menu when viewing your site, or by changing the "title" variable in your site's content.json.

@Tkarita: OMG that must be porn lol

Tkarita · tkarita@zeroid.biton Aug 20, 2016Reply

IOL has "195326.26MB" of optional files.

Tkarita · tkarita@zeroid.biton Aug 20, 2016Reply

@Mynameislegion: there are some strange issues with getting them to work: http://127.0.0.1:43110/Talk.ZeroNetwork.bit/?Topic:1_1mytj22YfKjQujw9Fo43WBwSJB658vqyY/Optional+Files

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Aug 20, 2016Reply

@Tkarita: Nice. I need to make sure I understand that with the optional files: Basically, I create the site, add my data to the respective folders, publish the modifications and it generates the content.json with all files added in there. Next, I would need to edit the json and move the files that shall become optional from "files" to "files_optional"? Plus publish again of course.

Tkarita · tkarita@zeroid.biton Aug 20, 2016Reply

@Mynameislegion: they'll probably be asked to increase the limit to 50MB.

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Aug 20, 2016Reply

@Tkarita: @FraYoshi: Ahaha yes corrected. So I know I can add these optional files, but even without optional files it will be like 31MB big. This is the bare minimum - if users are accesssing the site, would they automatically informed about that the size is bigger than 10MB and asked to increase their limit?

FraYoshi · frayoshi@zeroid.biton Aug 20, 2016Reply

@Tkarita: I didn't notice It.. thanks, now It works :)

FraYoshi · frayoshi@zeroid.biton Aug 20, 2016Reply

zite unreachable...
there's no size limit for a website AFAIK.. but people have to increase the size limit for the site.. nothing difficult :)
but maybe the proxies won't seed....

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Aug 20, 2016Reply

@Tkarita: @PaintNinja: Thanks for this info guys, is there any tutorial for beginners? I am just learning html, css and python and java still puzzles me a bit. The site is ready I just need to move it onto ZeroNet ;)

Found the link, it is http://127.0.0.1:43110/17Kom2G5qNDc6NaQwv445h1gFzxkY3ZtZe/site_development/content_json/#optional

Tkarita · tkarita@zeroid.biton Aug 20, 2016Reply

ZeroISR has 620MB of optional files. I haven't seen ZeroNet using "GB" anywhere; maybe there are problems for sites that large. The Intercept mirror grew continuously without updating content.json.

PaintNinja · paintninja@zeroid.biton Aug 20, 2016Reply

Use the optional_files feature in ZeroNet so that content is only downloaded when requested rather than requiring everything to be downloaded before the zite can be viewed

@Edantes: You can manually clone a site by copying the data from its site folder to a blank site you created through the Zeronet command line. Just make sure you don't overwrite the "content.json" in your new site's root directory. Then you just wipe the data directory and start tweaking whatever files you want. That's how I made Dark ZeroMe.

Dont think the option to clone (from the menu) ZeroTorrent is available. Shame, it makes a great starting template. If anybody manages to get one up and running and wants to partner with a veteran torrents harvester, let me know, me and the fellas here are sitting on gigabytes worth of content that needs a forever home.

Python isn't needed at all, unless you're working on the ZeroNet software itself.
