megfault commented on Kaffie's post: Also, on my phone I am using LineageOS without any Google apps/services. I get all my apps from F-droid, plus the odd apk I download from elsewhere (this last step is not very secure, do it with caution if you do it at all).
megfault commented on Kaffie's post: That sounds horrible. I am trying to live as Google-free as possible, but I still have to get rid of my gmail account, even though my main email account is self-hosted. I have to make sure all important services have the new contact information before I remove my Google account.

megfault commented on Musickiller's post: Compartmentalization means that you isolate parts of your data and applications from each other. One possible solution is to run untrusted applications on a virtual machine. Or keep the data you want secured on an air gapped machine: one that you never connect to a network, and then use an external disk to transfer data around (after doing some paranoid verification that it is clean of potential threats). It all depends on who you expect to try to steal/modify/destroy your data and what capabilities they have.

I was at this year's edition of Freedom Not Fear in Brussels. It was a lovely 2.5 day workshop, followed by a day at the European Parliament, and we worked hard to protect digital users' rights.

We hope to have convinced the politicians that personal data should not be included in trade agreements, as it should not be handled as merchandise.

We also discussed several rights issues in individual countries and found them to be incompatible with EU law, so we can now return home with better and stronger arguments.

We handled so many topics, ranging from very legalese things like personal data collection and retention laws and copyright to practical actions like campaigns to get journalists to use cryptotools. Did you know that in journalism schools in Denmark it's now mandatory to attend a course on cryptotools?

I had a really inspiring time there, and returning home was actually a bit heartbreaking. It's good to know I have secured a ticket to attend the 33C3 and will be seeing many of those great activists again.

@Nobite: if you move your mouse, can you see a symbol that resembles an old floppy? If not, what happens if you right-click the document? Do you get a context menu?

@P2P: I'm too dumb to even download the slides. I can see them in the broswer, but not seeing a dl link.

Going to present ZeroNet at my hackerspace tonight. I have been looking into the source code and all, just to be able to explain it properly :-)

How was it?

Nice! I'm sure it's going to be a great opportunity to introduce a great platform for the community!

that sounds good too. I think it totally depends on the audience. There are those who wanna understand how it works under the hood, the concepts, and others who focus more on simply seeing how to get it and what to do it.

Oh, I promised I wouldn't use any slides. I think explaining how the system works while showing the real system is far more fun. But thanks anyway!

@Nobite: if you visit https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1_2qK1IuOKJ51pgBvllZ9Yu7Au2l551t3XBgyTSvilew/ you can “Download as…” from the “File” menu.

@ks: moving the mouse just moves the arrow. Right click gives "save pages as" which downloads the html. Well, I guess I have to live with that, tohugh I'd prefer a normal pdf

Bahh, I am so busy with work, I won't have time to add content to the aDTN wiki in the next days. Sorry :(

Thanks for the feedback so far!

@ks: there is one, I maintain it at the moment, but it was programmed by a group of students for a university project. It is quite buggy and only works on some phones, because they really tried to use wifi in ad-hoc mode, which is broken beyond repair. There is the possibility to switch to Bluetooth, but I do not have time to do it now.

This sounds very interesting. Are there any apps around that use the aDTN protocol?

Same here, I had to postpone it to tomorrow (forecast says no clouds). Too bad, since the peak is today. But tomorrow the meteors should still be visible enough.

Just finished writing the introduction/motivation of aDTN.

Next comes the "How does it work?" page, but I will only continue tomorrow. I've been writing all afternoon.

If you read it, please let me know if it's easy to understand and what could be improved (or if you find some error, you can fix it directly).

Alek, indeed, the Python library is more for my testbed experiments on throughput and security. I really do not like programming for Android so the app is really needing some love :(

Hi truth, there is now a summary of the features on the main wiki page, but I can add one on that page as well.

Could you make a paragraph size summary also? I think it will be most useful, like in academic papers.

It appears to be fixed. It occured when the comment was on another hub.

I confirmed in the pop on the upper right corner that I want to delete it, then it shows the notification that the content was published to 5 users, but I still see it under the post.

Presenting my anonymous communication protocol for wireless networks, aDTN

Interesting proposal! We need more of these alternative protocols

Hi Astzor, you just have to use markdown, like this: link text

Markdown is (still) not working in comments, though.

For preventing broken links when using proxies, I am using relative links, e.g.: ../SomeZeroAddress
