Real Human Bean commented on Kaffie's post: Very helpful and thank you very much for this effort! I've been wondering when will they deploy automatic spam bots. It seems that some of the names in the list are machine generated. Perhaps we may find their patterns and build a countermeasure to pretend such IDs from registering at all ? Or maybe there can be an export/import mute list feature in future versions of zeronet? ps:i personally don't believe that simply banning all chinese ips is the solution. The regular chinese users are already suffering from GFW.If Zeronet banned all chinese ips, that means the government would win and the spammers' purpose would be filled, meanwhile regular users from china would lose a way to reach outside worlds.
Real Human Bean commented on P2P's post: @Nofish: Thank you for your effort. there maybe a problem for users without advanced technical skills.ZeroNet is not by default anonymous in many aspects and kinda lacks easy-to-set or default security settings. So it requires users to work alot to make their client secure, which might be hard for those not very technical-sophisticated users. Nevertheless,Zeronet is a imporant instrument in fighting against those leviathans.Thank you very much.
Real Human Bean commented on P2P's post: @P2P @Nekocross: Thanks to you guys for helping in this issue.I think some chinese people that have difficult times bypassing GFW because they use the default DNS server provided by ISPs. So alternative and encrypted DNS servers like 1.1.1.1 with ESNI enbaled may help alot. Besides Zeronet I heard that some people also have problems with circumvent tools, but after they changed DNS server problems solved. Thus a secure DNS server is very important.

Real Human Bean commented on 猫叉酱(小号)'s post: @猫叉酱(小号): @P2P: I honestly i don't know. Also i didn't mean nor believe that bloomberg's article is necessarily the truth.Too many opinions and ambiguous 'sources' i'd say. What I meant is that china have lots of very smart persons who works for the regime. So they may have the techs that can surprise us.We can not under-estimate them. Also hardware based backdoors are very attractive to the powers worldwide.either to China or US. Surely I hope this is not true,For we already have many loopholes and 0days nowadays.A hardware attack like this mean that the war is now escalated into a new level, assuming that is true. It's possible that the bloomberg made up this article just to endorse the trade war,or to encourage corporations moving their production factories out of china. Those are my opinions,of couse, may not be the fact.Although Those commercial medias post 'news' for their own purpose and agendas,i feel that faking a serious news like this is quite suicidal. Not only because they will face serious law issues,it will also literally kill whatever the poor credibility they have left. The only sure way to find out the result is that someone have one of those 'compromised' chips and run test on them.Although i didn't find that bloomberg have given the infomation about which specific models were modified.I am saying that it's a little hasty to fully accept or deny what bloomberg have said without more detailed and independent investigations. I hope we keep this in a friendly discussion okay?I just believe that the possibility is there but still we need solid proof to see that wether this happened or not.

Real Human Bean commented on Styromaniac's post: @Styromaniac: I think most human beings are prone to build various kinds of walls and tags to keep themselves in a 'safe zone'.and the walls eventually become prisons and cages. And the tags are now their chains. So much prejudice, ignorance and stupidity. All those obessions in trying to keep 'sanity' and certainty are futile. Many people hates the things that different from them and refuse to try to understand them.many people are either too lazy or too self-centered to learn about the 'weird' stuffs. So they resort to the simplest method to treat those. To refuse,to despise, and to hate.If you ever try break their chains and walls, they may just kill you.

Seriously people,FOR YOUR OWN SAKE and SAFTEY,stop giving away your personal information here(or anywhere online).

I have seen some ZeroNet posts containing the posters professions, hobbies and locations, also with the same ID they post things that some parties won't like(political criticize, certain porns etc).

Do you believe that give away just a bit of your general location or profession is not a big issue? well you might be deadly wrong.Especially if you are in heavily censored, monitored and surveilled environments. For instance the US,China, and Russia.
If malicious parties want to get you, they CAN make use of the seemingly most 'insignificant' data about you.
Combining those tiny bits with other datas like your personal webpage can easily get you tracked and raided.Or even worse.
And deleting those datas that you have given away won't help in most cases because if you are arleady a target, anything you gave away is probably has been archived already.
If you really want to share personal information with others.Create another seperated ID,share in private with strong end-to-end encryption and make sure it doesn't relate to anything about your public ID.
Also before uploading the photos you took, remember to erase metadatas. The photos you want to make public might contain precise gps coordinates and time stamp.Don't share your purchasing record or naked photos if you want to be safe, especially in dangerous environments.

I am NOT talking about self-censorship,and please DO NOT self-censor.
Please do share knowledges, thoughts and works here.Just don't give away information that might be used to harm and against you.Monitoring ZeroNet is quite easy, and if you give away personal infomation by yourself, any technical protection is just useless.

Darknet or not, anonymous and safety are mostly your own responsibility and no technology alone can assure that.

Just a friendly reminder here, not trying to be a teacher or whatsoever.

Funny, I've been kind of thinking about this the last couple of days. On one hand I want to be more active here and contribute more, but on the other hand that would require me to reveal more of what I know, which can be correlated with my general interests and be used to home in on myself. And that's assuming that I don't fuck up OPsec while doing so. The only way to somewhat mitigate that is to sprinkle in lies that defer from my real personality, but not only is this disingenuous to everyone else, but now I'm back where I started, lying all the time, to hide who I am(only the other way around), which I was trying to avoid in the first place(what I didn't want to have to do anymore when I was coming here)...

Also: Nice to see that you are still around.

@caryoscelus:

one little slip can make you paranoid for days

+1

Although you don't even need to make a little slip to be paranoid for days, the 'great' thing about paranoia is, that you don't even need a solid reason. Sometimes not even fear of what could have been is required.

So i think the important thing is to make an informed decision, rather than necessarily trying to stay as anonymous as possible

Unfortunately for some people there is no option to choose from.(Well there still is, but the choice between Ending your current state of life forever into an unfavorable(and uncertain) future, likely loosing 80% of everything you hold dear(material or not, which includes family, friends, social status, probably your job), people looking over your shoulder on everything you do and (depending on where you live) constant fear of the people around you and you better do damn near perfect OPsec or shut up is an easy one to make)
@ssdifnskdjfnsdjk@zeroid.bit: Also don't forget to set trackers to tor as well.

caryoscelus · caryoscelus@zeroid.biton Apr 28, 2019Reply

I am NOT talking about self-censorship,and please DO NOT self-censor.

The distinction between the two can get pretty fuzzy.

In general, on one hand i agree: many people tend to underestimate how easily they can be tracked; on the other hand, thinking about that might just not be worth it for many. I mean, ok, the risk is there (in fact, even if you don't live in an oppressive country and don't do anything illegal, some risk is still there), but is it worth fearing and constantly thinking what you can and what you cannot do? And even if you do, it's extremely hard to stay safe all the time; one little slip can make you paranoid for days and this may do more harm than when you finally get caught

So i think the important thing is to make an informed decision, rather than necessarily trying to stay as anonymous as possible

important reminder! i think it is good to utilize several identities, one for sensitive stuff one for less sensitive. I am using multiuser_local setting in my zeronet.conf and that allow me to switch identity on the top of the ZeroHello page. PS: for good anonymity, use "tor: always" mode on ZeroHello i bet.

Hi could someone help me please?

Is there a way to manually ban a connection ip?

For example,if I see some of my connections are not encrypted in /Stats and i suspect that they are badgers, how do i disconnect from them and ban them?

If my question is unclear please forgive me,Thanks for your answers inadvance.

@Git Center: hi thanks for replying.I just really feel insecure without encryption.Do you know any method to manage my connections manually?

Git Center · gitcenter@zeroid.biton Aug 31, 2018Reply
