Crazylime commented on Kaffie's post: @Kaffie: This is why I developed a love for history. The reason it repeats itself is that human nature never changes. Cultures can get better at containing its impact. Yet, I doubt there can ever be a utopia in a world with human nature. You are right, privacy is a defense. You have to defend yourself from human nature. Even if you align everyone's intentions for good, there are still facets of human nature that are independent of intent. Our propensity for self-deception through false assumption is the reason we can drive a car. It's a gift and a curse at the same time. Thus, no cure. Another one is power. Power corrupts. How do you create a culture where no one has power or can ever attain it? This is why I love decentralization... it reduces power centers.
Crazylime commented on Kaffie's post: @kaffie: haha, I was wondering through the whole thing how this impacted your views on privacy... "Thank you for respecting people's privacy."

Problem is, if BitChute goes down, how do you find the links? So a decentralized portal like BitChute with features such as like, commenting, searching, subscribing, channels and playlists could fill that gap, and ZN opens that possibility.

Censorship attacks are very easy today. They can just have bots post socially negative chatter. Have the press report on it. You know the rest.

Memesadler · memesadler@zeroid.bit3 hours agoReply

The opposite is also true for the press. Something happens, just don't talk about it and pull something else out instead.

I like how ZN basically requires people to make lean sites, rather than bloating with needless frameworks/libraries.

Received 22MB of data. Can see the wheel spinning.

Ansho Rei · anshorei@zeroid.bit22 hours agoReply

20MB for a rotating circle seems a bit heavy... Is it supposed to do anything else? It also looks like there's a bit too many font files included, dunno why you'd need a couple of dozen?

Crazylime · crazylime@zeroid.bit3 days ago

If you remove the "http://127.0.0.1" part of link and just use relative, your link with work with relays.

Kid Courageous · kidcourageous@zeroid.bit2 days agoReply

@Kaffie: Maybe the devs could strongly advise it? Or like it could detect the browser and be like a windows tooltip saying "Hey I noticed you're using Chrome, firefox, etc. maybe try this extension!" or on the linux startup script be like "it is advised you blah blah"

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.bit2 days agoReply

@Kid Courageous: Yes. There already exist browser modifications to support zero://, http://zero/, http://zeroidname.zeroid, and http://domainname.bit style addresses. I have all three set up on my machine. The problem is doing such a link would break for people who don't have it set up, and there's no way to automatically set it up. See: http://127.0.0.1:43110/kaffie.bit/test.html

@Crazylime: See the page I linked. I have a .pac file that sets it up.

@Pigpog: See my earlier comment why relative links don't work for all users.

Pigpog · pigpog@zeroid.bit2 days agoReply

just do href="/address", whats the problem here?

Crazylime · crazylime@zeroid.bit2 days agoReply

@Kaffie: Have you tried playing with the "base href" tag for that, commonly used by apps such as Angular. Accessing the same site via multiple URL depths is a challenge, and "base href" is the only way I know to work around it. What plug-in/tool are you using for .bit DNS browser host resolution?

Kid Courageous · kidcourageous@zeroid.bit2 days agoReply

I'm running on fumes so that probably sounded way dumber than it was in my head

Kid Courageous · kidcourageous@zeroid.bit2 days agoReply

@Kaffie: A browser plugin might do it right? Or maybe some kind of executable, app, or script to modify DNS to recognize .bit addresses and append the loopback address + zeronet port?

SSDifnskdjfnsdjk · ssdifnskdjfnsdjk@zeroid.bit2 days agoReply

i have got used to localhost:port address, because i am usually using my web browser address autocomplete function which quickly suggest me correct full URL. I think best approach to this would be firefox URL prefix like: zn://kaffie.bit, but i do not like .bit domains anyway, because it is not reliable identifier comparing to zeronet address.

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.bit2 days agoReply

@Kid Courageous: one solution could be to auto-detect links in the form of http://zero/address and http://domainname.bit and auto-change them to http://127.0.0.1:43110 unless the user has specified that they support those.

Kid Courageous · kidcourageous@zeroid.bit2 days agoReply

What's the solution?

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.bit2 days agoReply

Relative links break for people who directly visit .bit urls. For instance my navbar says http://me.zeronetwork.bit/, so a relative url for something like kaffie.bit would end up as: http://me.zeronetwork.bit/kaffie.bit.

Linking is so fucked rn, we really need a standardization so that we can stop this 127.0.0.1:43110 nonsense.
