~Publicality~ commented on Kaffie's post: @Bigbadbob: hehe i like that spirit :) And yeah, most argument relating to politics are useless since theres no substance, it just seems on the surface they're saying something but infact they didnt :x Good comedy that illustrate it tho >:) : [But he didnt say anything! - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sG_Av1TmGUA) (CleanWeb / 3min watch, updated for a better resolution one :)
~Publicality~ commented on Publicality's post: @caryoscelus: hmm what kind of talks do you watch? :3
Publicality commented on Bigbadbob's post: welcome, you might wanna try guessing who am i >:)
~Publicality~ commented on Kaffie's post: @Bigbadbob: Btw just curious but do you think it's normal to reference politicians view point in our reasoning? To me it seems like choosing a soft ground to stand our argument on, easy and effortless to do but not as firm as normal hard and concrete facts / statistics. Referencing is less confusing and harder to get off track so got that going for it, idk, guess we human likes stories afterall. :p
~Publicality~ commented on Kaffie's post: @Znnex: not really, the immigration issue is just being blown up by Trump's campaign, it's actually have fallen to an all time low already and also theres something called "[Circular Flow/Wikipedia/CleanWeb](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circular_migration)" so if you secure the border, people are more likely to overstay their visas and become an illegal immigrant.
~Publicality~ commented on Kaffie's post: Since when did the topic changed to capitalism vs communism ... both isnt inherently bad it only becomes bad when pushes to the extreme. For example do you want capitalistic healthcare system that only the wealthy get quality care while ass off with the poor? Or do you want one that treat everyone equally like some european countries like Sweden which in this case beat the crap out of US in their quality while not being frikin expensive. Heck, look at the school system, being so capitalistic that prices and student debt rises like rockets while quality doesnt change much, and of course look at Finland for their education system. --- @Caropc7: I believe you're a reasonable person, thats why I really urge you to take a broader view at how the "work = success" dream is so hard to achieve for poor people. Here is an simplified explanation: [Youtube/ClearWeb](https://youtu.be/TPcmCpbiDiw "Adam Ruins Everything - Why the American Dream is a Myth") Also about the we don't need "state", do you mean "state" to be any form of governing bodies? I'm a bit confused about that part. ---------------------- @Bigbadbob: @Kaffie: I thought Canada's Immigration isn't that strict :O I have many friends who went and study abroad there and they said the same thing, maybe its just for students? or temporary stay?

~Publicality~ commented on Publicality's post: @Ansho Rei: it doesnt hurt to share unfinished ideas :3 Sometimes having people hearing its also what helps you fills in the blanks of your stories
~Publicality~ commented on Publicality's post: @Kid Courageous: psychic experiences? like the talking to the dead thinggy?
~Publicality~ commented on Kaffie's post: Well I hope your issues are alright, cant really say much about your circumstance since indeed the decks are stacked against the poor in a lot of countries, including the US. You've been very helpful for being my leg up on joining the decentralized community. Hope you're well fed and healthy, I will still be here if you need someone to rant your emotions. also @Caropc7: , your comment sounds more like propaganda for the "american dream" rather than reality... :x

Publicality commented on Tommykakashi's post: @caryoscelus: @Realjohndoe: i think thats more likely when others are decieved or lefted unknown, thats why i think we need free flow of information. Other than that, encourage critical thinking and questioning our own belief - dont be afraid that you're wrong, because beliefs are just tools you view the world with, it's **not you** so change if needed :D And @Tommykakashi: , yea let us all contribute !! :))))

~Publicality~ commented on Publicality's post: Im agree with @SSDifnskdjfnsdjk: we need more peers to make ZeroNet more resistant to censorship
~Publicality~ commented on Publicality's post: @Thunder: @Tuisko: Instead of that, they could just file a legal warning to force you to take it down or face them sue u or sth like that. Owners can edit sites so just remove all the data... done. It's not about taking down a site, it's about removing information from sites
~Publicality~ commented on Publicality's post: @Diligentslacker: well the problem isn't about peer exchange. It's about how people can still sensor data by forcing owners to remove it.
~Publicality~ commented on Tusiko's post: I did experience it the first time but logins after that works smoothly

~Publicality~ commented on Publicality's post: @Diligentslacker: @SSDifnskdjfnsdjk: well should we make the trade off tho, by letting owners delete their own materials, it'll become centralized and gov just need to find that 1 person instead of what promised of zeronet (peer to peer)
~Publicality~ commented on caryoscelus's post: @caryoscelus: nice :)
~Publicality~ commented on Publicality's post: @Quantumworld: guess they have their own reasons, maybe accountability and safety is one. Anyhow, it's not going to be solve by dissing others and tell them to fuk off (what i see now adays in politics)

Publicality commented on Realjohndoe's post: @Realjohndoe: umm it doesn't matter if we're in medieval times or modern, the flow of power is still the same no? the title might be miss leading but it's just an explanation for the control of power. If we want *"competent employees, public servants and transparent highly accountable PUBLIC administrators"* then we have to design a system that cultivate such individuals. **It's easy to point fingers and say people are doing stuff wrong but it might just be that the system forced them to behave badly.**
~Publicality~ commented on Tusiko's post: @Tusiko: >:) the press and news portray darknets like hubs for violence, crime, and illegal activities but most of them were just devs, privacy seekers, and geeks like me :P

Is anyone here have TED Talks(CleanWeb) in their news diet? ZeroPolls - Vote if you want~~

caryoscelus · caryoscelus@zeroid.bit8 hours agoReply

@~Publicality~: mostly about music and/or programming, or just something i like the title of. I remember a nice one about syncing live playing with "backing track", but can't find it now. Ted had tons of videos on similar subjects since then and i don't know what keywords to use, lol

~Publicality~ · publicality@zeroid.bit8 hours agoReply

@caryoscelus: hmm what kind of talks do you watch? :3

caryoscelus · caryoscelus@zeroid.bit11 hours agoReply

@~Publicality~: i saw the cat, naturally. But it sounded as if it was a pigeon (or other bird for that matter, but i was expecting pigeon when i turned to see who's there)

doesnt seem like you were outside

Eh?

~Publicality~ · publicality@zeroid.bit12 hours agoReply

@Kid Courageous: hmm well always nice to have a benching brother :p
Would nice to see some psychics irl action tho, sadly i got no expense to visit other countries rn :x

Kid Courageous · kidcourageous@zeroid.bit12 hours agoReply

@~Publicality~: Six years my junior but he's never been able to do anything like this. He's like my parents. But a lot of the people in my family can do stuff like this. On both sides actually. He's strong though. Real lean motherfucker but he can bench way more than he looks.

~Publicality~ · publicality@zeroid.bit12 hours agoReply

@Kid Courageous: thats sad :( how old is he?

Kid Courageous · kidcourageous@zeroid.bit13 hours agoReply

He called me a freak :(

Kid Courageous · kidcourageous@zeroid.bit13 hours agoReply

I fought with my brother the other day, though, and just like with the dog I wasn't trying and I pulled my brother's arms away from me and ran.

Kid Courageous · kidcourageous@zeroid.bit13 hours agoReply

Also it feels comparatively limited in terms of dexterity. It's like being a toddler and having to learn fluid movement and kinetic precision all over again.

Kid Courageous · kidcourageous@zeroid.bit13 hours agoReply

@~Publicality~: I really don't think the size matters. It's not like moving something with my hands. It's just like I haven't worked this muscle out so everything seems to take the same strenuous effort whenever I try. I dunno. It's weird.

Kid Courageous · kidcourageous@zeroid.bit13 hours agoReply

It felt weird. Like I know how to do the other stuff like listening in on someone's thoughts. It feels like I'm focusing a singular point of my sense of self into someone else and pull their thoughts in like a mix between being the radio and tuning into a frequency and like a tidal force pulling water. Like being the beach and the lens focusing one or two thing for an eye exam. Or leaving my body it's like these strings getting cut and I just will myself out like turning off clipping in a video game. This is weirder though. It's like I can feel it tactile-like but it's like a tension in my brain and I don't really know how to describe it other than as touching something without touching it if that makes sense. It doesn't feel the same as just moving something with my physical limbs.

~Publicality~ · publicality@zeroid.bit13 hours agoReply

@Kid Courageous: why chu choose something so hard for a practice run xD why not try with some pebbles for a starter?

Kid Courageous · kidcourageous@zeroid.bit13 hours agoReply

@~Publicality~: I tried really hard a few weeks back and I got the pot full of water halfway over to the next burner but it gave me a serious headache and I had to lie down after. I haven't practiced since.

~Publicality~ · publicality@zeroid.bit13 hours agoReply

@Kid Courageous: And it never happened again since? :O

Kid Courageous · kidcourageous@zeroid.bit13 hours agoReply

But IDK how I do that. Like this one time it was by complete accident because a neighbor's small dog got out without a leash and it was about to attack my dog and another neighbor's dogs and I threw my hand out at the attacking dog and it went flying backwards, yipped in pain, and ran back home terrified. The other neighbor just looked at me like I was a superhero and said "Goddamn, thanks dude!" and walked off dumbfounded. So that was cool.

~Publicality~ · publicality@zeroid.bit13 hours agoReply

@caryoscelus: hmm how do you know it was a cat and a pigeon, doesnt seem like you were outside :P

@Kid Courageous: oh, how far can you reach with that ability?

Yep i should stack my replies like this since it's much easier xD

Kid Courageous · kidcourageous@zeroid.bit13 hours agoReply

Oh and sometimes I can move shit without touching it.

Kid Courageous · kidcourageous@zeroid.bit13 hours agoReply

@~Publicality~: Well, I can leave my body. It's pretty neat. I also saw my uncle die from 50 miles away in my own bed. When I told my mom she looked at me like I was Rosemary's baby. She had just found out. There was no other way I could have known.

~Publicality~ · publicality@zeroid.bit13 hours agoReply

caryoscelus · caryoscelus@zeroid.bit21 hours agoReply

@Crazylime: well the doc that I followed to change my hub is @kaffie: 's how to change hub post

But for merged sites from what I know, merging = allowing the main site to use the merged hub data. Which is why other's post on different hubs wont appear if you dont have the hub they're on.
(example: I post on Kaffie's hub, you have to also have Kaffie's hub to see my post)

@Klu9: I completely forgot about ZeroWiki. I'll see when I have time to write something up, but I think I'll add some things there.
Alternatively I could just recycle the explanations on PedoHub, do you think these are clear enough?
Text of that section:

How does ZeroMe work?
ZeroMe is a merger zite. That means, that content storage and content display are separated.
The zite ZeroMe itself manages, how the content is displayed, while the hubs store the actual content you browse on ZeroMe.
There are two types of hubs. User registry hubs
and User content hubs.
~
User registry hubs:
These hubs are used for the New users and Suggested users sections on ZeroMe.
Only one of these does currently exists. It is the ZeroMe user registry and is hard coded into all (current) ZeroMe implementations.
The content.json of that hub only allows the providers ZeroID and ZeroVerse.
That has the effect, that if you register with neither of them, your account will not show up in those sections.
Depending on your situation, this could be desirable or undesirable, since all registered users will show up in both sections will show everyone that uses ZeroMe.
~
User content hubs:
These are where your profile, posts, comments and replies are stored.
There are many hubs out there(this hub being one of them). A list of most of them can be found on Get All Hub.
Every post you make will be stored on the hub, that you registered on. If you comment on a post, that is not stored on your hub, than your content is stored twice, once on the hub you're on and once on the hub of the user you wrote a comment to. Since all content is stored on hubs, you can only see posts from hubs you already visited(downloaded) once before.
In other words: The more hubs you have, the more posts you're able to see (the posts in the Everyone section of ZeroMe).
Even though ZeroMe does not have an moderation system, hub owners(this can be either hub runners or anyone that has the private key of the hub) have absolute power over that hub. If they so chose to, they are able to delete posts, users and the hub itself(by turning the entire hub into an blank page, for example), however they cannot meaningfully edit user data and deleting posts/users requires work, that is likely to be noticed, by more tech savvy people and everyone, that happened to be also using that hub at that time.

klu9@zeroid.bit · klu9@zeroid.biton Dec 29, 2018Reply

@Pexo: Thanks for the explanation! As a new user, I've been trying to find out basic things about ZeroMe like 'what is a hub?', 'where is this hub?', 'why should I join yet another hub?' and 'what do they mean by 50kb space?' And 'wait, what hub am I on now???' But the 0net documentation, FAQs, New ZeroWiki and ZeroMe itself have all been completely uninformative on these issues. I don't suppose you could post a short, basic description to the New ZeroWiki page on ZeroMe so that newbs like me can understand? :)

Pexo · pexo@zeroid.biton Dec 28, 2018Reply

That's because you don't have much space left. Every hub has a 'max_size' each user can post(images don't count towards that, they are considered 'optional' and are grouped into the 'max_size_optional' limit). This is defined in the users/content.json for your hub(MoonHub):

  "permission_rules": {
   ".*": {
    "files_allowed": "(data.json|avatar.jpg|avatar.png)",
    "max_size": 50000,
    "max_size_optional": 100000000
   },
   "bitid/.*@zeroid.bit": {"max_size": 60000},
   "bitmsg/.*@zeroid.bit": {"max_size": 60000}
  }

Each of them are in bytes, so you have 50kB of text and 100MB of images by default.

If you want more you'll have to ask the hub runner if they can give you a raise, which they usually will do.
In your case that would be @Nofish: .

I'm currently also waiting on a raise over on orange hub, so in case nofish reads this: Please raise mine, too.

Also: Happy New Year, to you as well!

  "permission_rules": {
   ".*": {
    "files_allowed": "(data.json|avatar.jpg|avatar.png)",
    "max_size": 50000,
    "max_size_optional": 100000000
   },
   "bitid/.*@zeroid.bit": {"max_size": 60000},
   "bitmsg/.*@zeroid.bit": {"max_size": 60000}
  }

I was wondering about No single point of failure

There is still single point failure because the person who created the site still have full control of it (which is good but that means if someone aka a government wanted to take down certain site they could target the creator)
I think that's also how GetGames got taken down

Any other opinion or suggestions?

Thunder · thunder33345@zeroid.biton Dec 22, 2018Reply

@Diligentslacker: You are 100% correct, owner/self censoring IS zeronet's achilles heel [for now]
We should get some sort of archival system, a peer to peer archival system
unlike dat or freenet we can just not have it baked into protocol spec but make it an optional plugin for peers who wanted it

Every peers can choose how long of history to keep, based on time or disk usage or last x changes for each/all sites
every peer can choose if they want to share it and allow others to ask for their copies

So even if some peer dont have said history copy they can easily just ask that few VPS who choose to archive everything forever(also note the original signatures will be used to resist alterations)

Basically another decentralized site archival system, where every peer is in control of their own node and arent forced to choke up on all the bloated histories if they choose not to

But yeah, zite owners = gods and the lack of a versioning system(well not specifically that, but any kind of control for the user over zite updates would be nice) are major points of failure right now and hard ones at that. I'm not sure how to solve any of them, since keeping a versioning tree would introduce major bloat to all zites, which is a problem considering zeronet has trouble managing big zites as is and taking the god power of zite owners would be greatly reduce the kinds of zites one can build.

I hope developers will create system which will significantly decrease importance of the site owner, meaning visitors will be able to modetate site content so the site quality will not depend upon single point of failure (site owner) to be cleaning the site.

Problem discovering zite owner IP
But maybe the problem described by @publicality is not that big, because i think it is rather impossible to discover which peer among thousands in the P2P network CREATED a site and first published it to the first peer. If you are third peer, how would you know the site is new? If it has low peer count, it does not mean it is new right? After lets say 2 years if some powerful people weant to discover original owner of the site with lets say 100+ peers, how would they do it? (i do not say it is impossible..)
They may have better chance if owner publish new changes on site and if their IPs/peers makes majority of the site peers.. Maybe they can say there is probability some IP is the owner, then they would have to hack the ISP of this IP to discover who is renting the IP....The IP can be shared among multiple computers in the building. Site owner can use encryption on the device where he store zeronet /data. The IP can be a VPN server IP with "no logging" policy..

Does IFS forces you to seed files?

SSDifnskdjfnsdjk · ssdifnskdjfnsdjk@zeroid.biton Dec 21, 2018Reply

@~Publicality~: they do not :) many files have no peer, i think it is big problem in numerous sites. They are wasting users time to show content that can not be downloaded.
Dynamic sites like IFS support optional files, it means it is downloaded only after user request to see image/video etc. If you watch only part of the video and close page, you may end up with incomplete file. Some sites has "Seed" button which should cause complete file download. To help seed many files user has to buy large HDD and open site's (0) menu (drag&drop button in corner on each site) and click to Download all optional files. Some sites using merger kind of sites to distribute data. For example zerome. When you search zerome in sites menu on ZeroHello page, you can find some hubs, open such hub, then its (0) menu and you can distribute only this hub files. But note you may download also bad content.

I don't know much about how 0net work but this seems like a problem that might worth a look.

How to create a long-term persistent Zeronet?

One of the areas zeronet could be improved is that each item is currently unique by default.
That means (hash-)identical items cannot be identified and commonly shared, even among merger-sites.

That leads to a fragile state of optional files in case not everyone shares all of the items of a big site default.

An example that illustrates the above would be a shared picture (or other informational item), which the original author might decide to deleted and therefore disappears the very moment that decision to delete the item spreads via "sign&publish".

more at IFS Blog

Ps - I'd like to understand more about the "sign&publish" if anyone have time to explain :)

Pss - Also would items be deleted via "sign&publish" would work best when the author actually wanted to delete completely for example a post? And not let others keep seeding it?

~Publicality~ · publicality@zeroid.biton Dec 18, 2018Reply

@Diligentslacker: @SSDifnskdjfnsdjk: well should we make the trade off tho, by letting owners delete their own materials, it'll become centralized and gov just need to find that 1 person instead of what promised of zeronet (peer to peer)

there have to be users who will seed all optional files in order all files are accessible. (open site/merger site (0) menu, scroll down and click "Download and help distribute all files") and set appropriate maximum filesize. And i think users should have right to delete their site content even from other people machines. Anyone can still do regular backups of /data folder so he can return in history and manually recover deleted data.

How to disagree productively and find common ground - Julia Dhar

Some days, it feels like the only thing we can agree on is that we can't agree -- on anything. Drawing on her background as a world debate champion, Julia Dhar offers three techniques to reshape the way we talk to each other so we can start disagreeing productively and finding common ground -- over family dinners, during work meetings and in our national conversations.

The talk is basically about avoiding attacking the person giving the argument, find common ground, and keep in mind you might be wrong.

Soo when will 0me get more functionality?

caryoscelus · caryoscelus@zeroid.biton Dec 15, 2018Reply

@Pexo:

The reason for 'probably never' is, that ZeroTalk, ZeroMe and ZeroID were never supposed to be finished zites

Yeah, that inconvenient fact nobody wants to talk about..

I think DaniellMesquita wanted to redo peeper, but I don't know how far that has come.

As far as i understood, it's just a plan and it won't reuse 0me hubs unlike current peeper (so even if realized it would be just another site, not 0me with more functionality)

Pexo · pexo@zeroid.biton Dec 14, 2018Reply

Probably never. Well, that makes it sound way meaner, than it actually is. The reason for 'probably never' is, that ZeroTalk, ZeroMe and ZeroID were never supposed to be finished zites. They were intended to be demos of what devs could build in ZeroNet and to show them how the api can be utilized.

@caryoscelus: I think DaniellMesquita wanted to redo peeper, but I don't know how far that has come.

the millennium questions

caryoscelus · caryoscelus@zeroid.biton Dec 14, 2018Reply

Once we get developers who have time, skills and motivation to add that functionality?.. Better api would certainly help with that; bringing more developers here would also increase the odds

By the way, there are alternative interfaces for 0me already, though not actively developed as far as i know

Soo this is one of my favorite from Kurzgesagt - In a nutshell
Sadly there haven't been any prospect for the virus side sequel T_T.
Here's the vid

Znnex · znnex@zeroid.biton Dec 14, 2018Reply

Hmm, maybe someone should mirror these on ZeroNet :P

~Publicality~ · publicality@zeroid.biton Dec 14, 2018Reply

@Thunder: still, other vids are worth the time tho, i'd come back to them occasionally :)

Znnex · znnex@zeroid.biton Dec 14, 2018Reply

@Pexo: I think the name is explained in one of the videos. I don't remember if there was a problem or I just stopped watching those videos, only that I saw some I liked but haven't watched any in a long time.

Thunder · thunder33345@zeroid.biton Dec 13, 2018Reply

I think 'Kurzgesagt' was something german.

Ewww, dirty clearnet! I think I liked Kurzgesagt at some point, though. I also thought the name had changed to something easier for people who get confused by "Kurzgesagt" :D

Thinking up interesting questions is awkward with no context. What is that avatar? What does your name mean? Why does "zeroid" sound like the name of an alien race or something rather than "ZeroID" every time I read it? Did you mean "private" when you said "personal" earlier? I'm sortof guessing (or hoping) you did.
