Although the idea hurts my audiophile heart. I wonder how many labels would be ok (as in tollerating) with reduced quality streams. Let's say, 160k.

PaintNinja · paintninja@zeroid.biton Sep 18, 2016Reply

@Alex: After some hunting around, it seems like we could be seeing FLAC support in some of the major browsers as early as next year. :)

Alex · bwoi@zeroid.biton Sep 18, 2016Reply

@PaintNinja: I don't know why they haven't already, FLAC is free and extensible, and it's really easy to implement.

PaintNinja · paintninja@zeroid.biton Sep 17, 2016Reply

@Alex: I just hope that browser vendors plan on adding native support for FLAC streaming... Sure, we've got WAV which is a good start, but for streaming and playing lossless audio over the internet we really do need something like FLAC or WavPack - especially for those who live in areas that don't have fibre.

Alex · bwoi@zeroid.biton Sep 17, 2016Reply

@PaintNinja: Hardware to listen to high-quality audio is also getting cheaper. There's no point in going backwards just to satisfy 1% of people.

Alex · bwoi@zeroid.biton Sep 16, 2016Reply

pls at least 320kbps, flac preferred

PaintNinja · paintninja@zeroid.biton Sep 16, 2016Reply

Why would anyone even want that? Storage is very cheap nowadays (I can buy a 64gb memory stick for under a tenner and a 2TB external hard drive for under £100) and with upcoming projects such as NinjaBeats eliminating bandwidth costs entirely, why would labels tolerate 160kbps audio streams?

cryp7ix · cryptix@zeroid.biton Sep 08, 2016

The open internet can be a pretty dark and hostile space. Feeling unsafe in public is terrible, far to common and nothing anybody should just accept.
I think we could be more safe in cypherspace but we need better spaceships and if there is a 0app that does encrypted groups, I'd like to see it.

cryp7ix · cryptix@zeroid.biton Sep 16, 2016Reply

So who is working on zeroTunes, sounDecent, ... ?

PaintNinja · paintninja@zeroid.biton Sep 08, 2016Reply

@cryp7ix: We at NinjaBeats hope that labels will react positively to the next generation of music distribution and will try everything reasonable within our power to help make that happen.
Personal collection management can indeed be tricky - especially if you use multiple music sources, which is why everything we'll distribute will follow a sensible, standardised folder structure and strict quality control both in organisation and the actual files and ID tags.

cryp7ix · cryptix@zeroid.biton Sep 08, 2016Reply

@PaintNinja: Thanks! Like the ethics of NinjaBeats. As a DJ of (more or less) unpopular techno music, I also feel compelled to give back to the original artists. My personal gripe is more with the personal collection managment of today's services but it looks like your taking quality seriously, which I value, too of course.

I still wonder how Labels will react to the next wave of p2p services but that's something which only time can tell, I guess.. :)

PaintNinja · paintninja@zeroid.biton Sep 08, 2016Reply

I haven't heard of either of those and couldn't find them on Kaffiene Search, so I'm guessing you're asking who's making a music service on ZeroNet? If so, I am with NinjaBeats (see my profile) and Bwoi is making something similar with Bwoi Music
