I find I have to read commentary, wikipedia, etc. from the net a lot of the time to understand why they were saying what they said. It's hard to find time to actually think these days isn't it? Almost impossible with all we are expected to do everyday.

meidan commented on Meidan's post: @Bravo: Well said. I don't pay attention to any of the current political conversations unless it's about privacy, security, etc. Otherwise, it's all historical. I could never find a definite position in current politics and I refuse to choose from the Democratic or Republican parties. I think they are all corrupt. The only party that seems to have a good view is the Pirate Party. But I will probably never side with a given political party. I just read a paper on something like moral view for politic's. It was written by Immanuel Kant. He wanted to secularize morals so that there was a common ground free of corruption. It would be great if something like that was our reality instead of everything constantly being about corruption and blame games in politics.

I'm not sure how much sugar is in skim milk but that's pretty much what they feed on. I think maybe they are just rapidly digesting what sugars are in the skimmed milk to grow faster. That will probably make a thin kefir though. Mine always ends up a sour cream like consistency. Which I either keep or turn into a salty mozzarella like cheese.

@Flyman: No Problem

Flyman · flyman@zeroid.biton Aug 27, 2017Reply

@meidan: talking to someone who actually does learn Japanese is helping. You mentioned Genki, and I'm downloading it now. This is help already... Oh, it is downloaded already, that was fast. Some (mp3)s and (pdf)s are there. I'm about to take a look. Thanks.

meidan · meidan@zeroid.biton Aug 23, 2017Reply

@Flyman: I'm not to that level yet. I'm still working through Genki I and working on memorizing Katakana. So far I haven't had any trouble with that but if I come across it in the future, I'll try to write up a post on it.

Flyman · flyman@zeroid.biton Aug 14, 2017Reply

That is great! I made attempts to "start studying Japanese" in the past and always failed. Maybe you will help me. My main goal was (and is) to be able to translate/understand text. It looks like I'm missing something. I can translate every word, but they do not add up into sentence with sense, indicating I'm doing it wrong. Most words have lots of meanings, most words combine into couples with other words to have another meaning... In english it was easy. Words are separated by spaces, you just use dictionary for words you do not know well yet... What I want to say is I'm glad you started studying Japanese, and I will make another try.
P.S. lately I look into ZeroMe once or twice a month, but my "ZeroNet projection" is "still alive".

meidan · meidan@zeroid.biton Mar 12, 2017

Cramming Medical Coding all week isn't doing me any favors. I've been so bored I finished three books this weekend.

meidan · meidan@zeroid.biton Apr 27, 2017Reply

@Flyman: Oh. I definitely understand this. It's exactly like that except I have three manuals of thousands of pages to look through per code.

Flyman · flyman@zeroid.biton Mar 20, 2017Reply

@meidan: seems like one of copypaste programming language, where all you do is copypasting (without full understanding of what you are copypasting) and then testing, and program somehow works. For example you need something that prints symbol, you search in some database and find something like this {asddeioaspdoia (x,y,char)} and you copypaste whole command asddeioaspdoia because it is boring to memorize it. And if you need to print lots of different symbols, you copypaste it every time, because every time case is little different and you have tons of different codes for printing symbol in different situations. And when you are programmer on copypaste language, you can't (it is very sad) to be proud and happy about what you are doing! :-[ ...And you need to waste lots of time just to pick correct code to copypaste. Just do not put your soul in it. I mean, do this work correctly, mechanically without being attached emotionally to it. In another words, doing stupid work without feeling stupid. :-] It can reduce a headache.
P.S. There is a good chance that I'm not understanding what I am talking about right now. :-]

meidan · meidan@zeroid.biton Mar 19, 2017Reply

@Flyman: Medical codes for insurance. Everything has a code. There's like 4 pages devoted to wheelchairs. Basically I read hospital files, surgery reports etc. and translate them into individual codes for insurance. Though programming a surgery bot would be so much cooler. :) This stuff is just a headache.

Flyman · flyman@zeroid.biton Mar 13, 2017Reply

What is that? Medical Coding. <A> Some kind programming language for surgery robot (one bug and surgery fails, patient dies). <B> All those latin names for every little bone, muscle, artery, e.t.c. <C> Effective way to read three books in two days (Maybe I should try this up, because I am currently reading {Ted Williams "Otherland part 4: bla-bla-bla"}. In plane txt it is about 2MB. I'm reading 2-3% per day. So estimated time is month at least. But I do not believe if I start do "Cramming Medical Coding", then I finish this book in two days along with another two similar books) :-]. <D> Some Hippocrates Rules List (Like "I will not harm patient". "I will not use parts of patient to feed myself". "I will not use my patient in scientific experiments that could be dangerous (for patient)").

"Heart of Darkness"... Is it somehow related to the PSX game "Heart of Darkness"? https://youtu.be/MNJIHNKHw_4?t=75 It is very fun game, and it is short. It is kind of difficult but it is easy to play it via emulator with it's load/save whenever you want feature. Story is about little boy, who is afraid of darkness so much, so he creates some kind of door to other world and travels there.

@Flyman: Very relatable song right now. :)

Flyman · flyman@zeroid.biton Nov 18, 2016Reply

"We do what we must because we can" - GLaDOS from game "Portal".
"There is no cake", "Cake is a lie" - same game.
"...there is no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake." - GLaDOS from game "Portal".
After you finish game "Portal" by defeating GLaDOS (female artificial intelligent being) throwing her modules one by one into fire, she starts to sing this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36reZ9-3VK0 which relevant to what happened in the game. Very romantic. :-] I time to time listen this song to feel a little better.

Faceless,
it follows in the shadows.
Just out of view.
Footsteps echo in the dark,
to the rapid rhythm of my heart.

Turn around quick!
Are they watching?
Do they see?
The air constricts around me.
It's hard to breathe.

It's mind changes faster,
than the passing of time.
Today, who is the enemy?
Who is mine?

I turn down the alley.
hoping for escape,
from this hate,
and the fear that it's too late.

But there's a wall.
And it's here.
with the fear,
as the faceless come near.
Someone pulls me through a door.

All is quiet and bright.
Light after light.
The wall and night
fade away. ...

The dawn it rises.
And the hate and the fear,
fade away. ...

But the footsteps?
They're my own.
