Jayofthezero commented on Jayofthezero's post: @Nekololi: Unless you manually edit files, you have to open a zite to add it to your personal blocklist. Not something everybody wants to do. And as I said my, priority was just to get 8chan onto a blocklist. I made it in only a few minutes after the news came out. I'll add more in the future, this was just the priority. It's up to people if they find it useful.
Jayofthezero commented on nekololi's post: @nekololi: Seems it was a temporary thing. It's working now. Maybe their servers had a hiccup just when I went to check.
Jayofthezero commented on Jayofthezero's post: @styromaniac@zeroid.bit: I thought other ones were already on other blocklists people have shared. And my priority was 8chan which hadn't been added to any of the lists I know of yet.
Jayofthezero commented on nekololi's post: Is it back? Just checked and I'm just getting a kokomade image.
Jayofthezero commented on Jayofthezero's post: @leftside: Most of the add-ons I care about have been ported to FF Quantum or replaced now so I made the jump. Some things still missing a few minor pieces of functionality, and there's still not as extensive a session manager available yet, but i'm pretty much satisfied.

Jayofthezero commented on Nofish's post: @Kaffie: Yeah, that'd be a good one. I already have 6 certs since they aren't compatible with all zites which is annoying.
Jayofthezero commented on Kaffie's post: @Kaffie: Okay. I might have one more trick I can try to upscale the cards. It won't clean them up, but they might help a bit with the difficult cards. I'll give it a try and give you the results.
Jayofthezero commented on FraYoshi's post: I wonder if they'll physically disconnect from the internet or will they still allow people to use the internet if they want to? Though the latter would probably set a flag on that person somewhere.
Jayofthezero commented on Kaffie's post: @Kaffie: I'll go run them all through then. If you do plan on doing any card reconstructions, I could make a template for you so you just need to basically copy in the artwork and then write in the text yourself?
Jayofthezero commented on Kaffie's post: @Kaffie: Went through some of the cards and put them through my clean and enhance tool. Worked great for a lot of the artwork, but the text is a different story. If the text was blurry my tool would make it near unreadable, so for those cards I'd have to go through and manually retype it all, which I sadly don't have the time for. If you're interested in the upscaled and mostly cleaned-up artwork I can go through all the images for you and hand you the results. At the very least you'd be able to make decent replicas that way for the cards that are too much of a mess. Unless of course you want to pay me to do the work. I'm not a pro, but I can still manage some decent reconstruction. I just don't want to spend all my free time doing unpaid work XD
Jayofthezero commented on ulrichard's post: I have to admit, they are some of the fanciest coins I've seen that hold actual monetary value.
Jayofthezero commented on ulrichard's post: I'm guessing most people still view Teslas as luxury cars. So it's like seeing a high-end sports car driving by with a piece of furniture strapped to it, which most people would think would never happen.
Jayofthezero commented on Kaffie's post: Can't find them, but if you have lower quality images, as long as they aren't messy, I could try cleaning them up and upscaling them. No promises of course. Best results would be from scans and not a photograph somebody has of it on their table.

I've had my Lenovo y50-70 for 3 years now and it still works great, though it's battery life kinda sucks since I needed portable horsepower instead of unplug time. Lenovo's build quality is great though, with the hinge being perfectly solid 😆, so I'd recommend seeing what they have in your price range. EDIT: Oh, you already picked one 😝

Jayofthezero commented on Jayofthezero's post: @Krixano: Tab Groups used to be built-into FF, but Mozilla removed it since they didn't feel it was worth the development time. But because of the wonders of open-source, somebody took the old code and turned it into an add-on so people could get the feature back, and eventually have it improved.
Jayofthezero commented on Jayofthezero's post: @Krixano: Yeah, that's built into FF now. My problems with it though are that the cookies are separated so I'd have to login multiple-times if I have several groups, and you can't hide tabs that aren't in a group so my tab bar gets filled with unrelated tabs. Right now with Tab Groups in FF56 tabs in other groups are hidden, I can freely switch between groups with a key combo, and there's a nice overview grid mode which makes it easy to drag multiple tabs between groups. While Containers is more of an advanced form of Private Tabs.
Jayofthezero commented on Musickiller's post: At this point maybe you should just setup an SSH Tunnel to the PC you run ZeroNet on and port forward ZeroNet to your phone. Works great on Android at least.

Jayofthezero commented on Polar's post: Any specific advantages over others?
Jayofthezero commented on Binchan's post: That's disgusting. Especially when their stupid subscription service has basically none of the books I like to read.
Jayofthezero commented on ulrichard's post: Yeah, it's annoying how everything is gated and DRM protected. Music has been DRM free for years and it's doing fine. One interesting site I've found is **Wakanim.tv**. It's an Anime service available in a few Nordic(English subs), German(German subs), and French(French subs) regions. They have a streaming subscription, but also a purchase option. And the best part, the purchased videos can be downloaded as high-bitrate DRM free MP4 files. I was able to access them via a Swedish VPN and pay using my US Paypal(Visa and Mastercard are also accepted). You pay using credits, with 1 credit = 1 euro. What's interesting is that 1 episode is 1 credit, and a full-season (usually 13 episodes) was 10 credits, but to test it out I bought one episode and discovered that the full season price had actually gone down to 9 credits! I've never seen adaptive season pricing like that on other VOD providers. Really nice service. Just wish my Swedish VPN was faster so that I didn't have to wait an hour to download a 3GB 1080p video.
Jayofthezero commented on Krixano's post: From what I understand of it, P2P Livestreaming is complicated, especially if you care about the stream actually being "live". BitTorrent has been trying it off and on and seem to have finally got the tech down, but with it being proprietary and them not being able to find any customers that want to use it commercially, it's just rotting. Either way, not sure it's worth the development time it'd take away from ZeroNet itself right now.
Jayofthezero commented on Polar's post: Ok, that's cool, and could possibly be abused XD
Jayofthezero commented on ulrichard's post: Talk about exploitative. That pricing model reminds me of microtransactions in video games, where you have to buy the in-game currency in bulk before you can spend a small amount of it.
Jayofthezero commented on Nofish's post: Good thing updating via ZeroNet is now possible. @Nofish: You should make that option easier to find so people who manage to get their hands on the Zeronet installer can easily figure out how to update despite the block.

Jayofthezero commented on Binchan's post: Still waiting for search.
Jayofthezero commented on Binchan's post: @Prudence: Piecemaps are what allow Zeronet to download big files like a torrent. Getting one piece from one person, and another piece from another person.
Jayofthezero commented on Musickiller's post: @Krixano: Yeah, I've been in places in the US where your only option was overpriced Comcast with speeds that never meet advertised, or overpriced 2mbps DSL that relies on unreliable aging copper.
Jayofthezero commented on Musickiller's post: I think people are mostly complaining about US cable ISPs that treat customers like shit, have virtual monopolies in many areas, and some even have stupid caps that they'll either charge tons of money for overages or even cut off your service because of your "misbehaving". Oh and Australians hate their ISPs too last I heard.

Jayofthezero commented on Binchan's post: @Musickiller: 13.43 MB
Jayofthezero commented on Musickiller's post: @Musickiller: Where have I found what?
Jayofthezero commented on Kaffie's post: @Kaffie: Way better than webtorrent at this point, especially for streaming media, as files are seeded even when people don't leave a tab open, and it's easy to see what files you're seeding. Though I still give the edge to normal torrents as far as downloading files goes, since a torrent client still gives you more control over things like bandwidth, connections, file location, etc.
Jayofthezero commented on Sirenyc's post: @Sirenyc: Works fine for me.
Jayofthezero commented on Kaffie's post: Uploading was pretty much just like seeding a new torrent, combined with the simplicity of using a file sharing site.
Jayofthezero commented on Sirenyc's post: ZeroUp really needs filters, sorts, and search soon. It's way too clogged with a bunch of random stuff now.
Jayofthezero commented on Musickiller's post: Videos are downloaded as you stream them. But you can click the "+Seed" button on ZeroUp to just tell it to download the whole file. Useful if the download is slow and you don't want to sit around.
Jayofthezero commented on Musickiller's post: You should upload some of them to ZeroUp. I'd do it myself, but my upload currently sucks right now.
Jayofthezero commented on Polar's post: @Polar: Big File support is already done, besides tweaks and bug fixes. IPFS was considered and rejected because critical features were either missing or not yet implemented. Lack of TOR support was critical, and also there'd be extra overhead running the seperate IPFS daemon.
Jayofthezero commented on Jayofthezero's post: @Musickiller: Yeah, you could do that. But some of the songs won't load unless the whole file is downloaded.
Jayofthezero commented on Jayofthezero's post: @Binchan: Haha, yeah I'm not surprised that worked. I was just interested in the combination of compressed archive and big file support. :)
Jayofthezero commented on Jayofthezero's post: @Musickiller: Ah, I figured that out. Looks like compressed archive support needs a few tweaks to be fully compatible with Big File support. For now you have to first start the download by opening the [original file](http://127.0.0.1:43110/1uPLoaDwKzP6MCGoVzw48r4pxawRBdmQc/data/users/1GL7wvqKyHd3yspwcM3tGQGdRgJZbvSGTu/SixOClockNews-20171006-6102017PMBrushesAsideLeadershipChallenge.mp3.tar.gz) and then [open the MP3](http://127.0.0.1:43110/1uPLoaDwKzP6MCGoVzw48r4pxawRBdmQc/data/users/1GL7wvqKyHd3yspwcM3tGQGdRgJZbvSGTu/SixOClockNews-20171006-6102017PMBrushesAsideLeadershipChallenge.mp3.tar.gz/SixOClockNews-20171006-6102017PMBrushesAsideLeadershipChallenge.mp3).
Jayofthezero commented on Polar's post: It is mostly a back end change, but on the user side it finally enables reliable file sharing and streaming video, which weren't practical to do on ZeroNet before. Big File support gave ZeroNet the ability to share pieces of files like Torrents do, which allows more efficient peer-to-peer sharing of data between users. Before ZeroNet had to download the entire file from a single source, which is okay for small files, but with large files it's unreliable since you have to download 100MB+ of data from a single source that may go offline at any time or have really slow upload speeds.
Jayofthezero commented on Jayofthezero's post: @Emeraude: Might want to warn users if a file is a large FLAC. XP
Jayofthezero commented on Polar's post: ZeroUp requires ZeroNet v0.6.0
Jayofthezero commented on Krixano's post: Probably I side effect of all the improvements made for Big File support.
Jayofthezero commented on Musickiller's post: It's real Charlie Chaplin. http://www.charliechaplin.com/en/articles/29-The-Final-Speech-from-The-Great-Dictator- >The Great Dictator was Chaplin’s first film with dialogue. Chaplin plays both a little Jewish barber, living in the ghetto, and Hynkel, the dictator ruler of Tomainia. In his autobiography Chaplin quotes himself as having said: “One doesn’t have to be a Jew to be anti Nazi. All one has to be is a normal decent human being.” > >Chaplin and Hitler were born within a week of one another. “There was something uncanny in the resemblance between the Little Tramp and Adolf Hitler, representing opposite poles of humanity, ” writes Chaplin biographer David Robinson, reproducing an unsigned article from The Spectator dated 21st April 1939: >“Providence was in an ironical mood when, fifty years ago this week, it was ordained that Charles Chaplin and Adolf Hitler should make their entry into the world within four days of each other….Each in his own way has expressed the ideas, sentiments, aspirations of the millions of struggling citizens ground between the upper and the lower millstone of society. (…) Each has mirrored the same reality – the predicament of the “little man” in modern society. Each is a distorting mirror, the one for good, the other for untold evil.” > >Chaplin spent many months drafting and re-writing the speech for the end of the film, a call for peace from the barber who has been mistaken for Hynkel. Many people criticized the speech, and thought it was superfluous to the film. Others found it uplifting. Regrettably Chaplin’s words are as relevant today as they were in 1940. ----------- Nofish added that restriction after somebody uploaded the PDF. He says while testing he doesn't want people to upload a bunch of small files, like what PDFs and MP3s usually are. Though the other restriction of minimum filesize of 10MB should've been enough for that. There's nothing stopping you from manually cloning ZeroUp and removing the restriction for yourself though.

Jayofthezero commented on ulrichard's post: Yeah, when my phone's OS randomly decided it wanted to go insane and start breaking random things (including the home button) I was more focused on the dread of having to setup everything again despite having all the apps and critical data backed up. Took me over 24 solid hours of configuring and waiting for things to copy and install before my phone was remotely back to a usable state again :P
Jayofthezero commented on weakish's post: Probably related to why http://contacts.google.com is still labeled as "Contacts: Preview".
Jayofthezero commented on Binchan's post: Yeah, the new UI is definitely an improvement.
Jayofthezero commented on nekololi's post: @Glightstar: That's not really what I meant by notifications. ZeroNet itself suffers from the problem that it can't use push notifications. You have to manually look up notifications. Meanwhile Discord and my IRC app will actually let me know when somebody wants to talk. Manually having to check for replies really handicaps the practicality of a live chat app. ZeroMe isn't handicapped by this since usually time isn't imperative when replying on here.
Jayofthezero commented on nekololi's post: Main problem with TW is that it's a live chat. Live chats need to be convenient and ZeroNet still isn't since it's not easily usable on every device yet. It kinda works on Android, but getting your keys copied and setup is a pain, and then navigating ZN on a phone is still a pain. Add to the fact that there's still no reliable way to get notifications for when somebody replies/posts without manually checking. Just too many hoops to make it worth it for most people. Things like ZeroMe work better because people can just hop in when it's convenient for them and take time browsing and replying.
Jayofthezero commented on Musickiller's post: @Krixano: Don't think dd can access harddisks directly yet in WSL.
Jayofthezero commented on Musickiller's post: Well, even Mac and Linux users want pretty tools that just work sometimes too :)
Jayofthezero commented on Musickiller's post: Personally I find it stupid when people debate over which Distro is better, or tell people to use [INSERT DISTRO] instead. I thought the whole point to Linux was that people use what's convenient for them or has the things they need? Arch is great for people who need to make something specific. Ubuntu is good for people that don't have much experience with Linux and just want things to work. Etc....
Jayofthezero commented on ulrichard's post: Holy shit that's actually pretty accurate.

I can't wait for this as some of the places I travel to have crap internet because of lazy incumbent Cable and Phone companies. No competition. With LEO Internet though you could potentially get less then 100ms ping and decent bandwidth regardless of local ISPs. Instantly, most of the US could get ISP competition. And of course it could even work in the middle of the ocean, though probably with higher ping. But anything is better than DSL with 200-1000+ms ping at 2mbps, Cable with bandwidth that dives to unusable during peak hours, or overloaded Mobile and GEO Satellite internet with tiny data caps.

Jayofthezero commented on Jayofthezero's post: @ZAlex: Doing that for all my devices would just complicate things. And I've already found Dukto so there's not much point XD
Jayofthezero commented on Jayofthezero's post: @ZAlex: Yeah, scp is nice, but it's a bit overkill and cumbersome for lots of local network transfers where the devices won't have a static IP. XP Hence why I like how this is simply open client on both devices, select device you want to send to, drag&drop file/folder, done. XD
Jayofthezero commented on Jayofthezero's post: > @isolinks: How do you create links like that on here? https://github.com/adam-p/markdown-here/wiki/Markdown-Cheatsheet
Jayofthezero commented on Tomas's post: @Krixano: Sure it can be cumbersome, but there's a limit to how much you can do with markdown before it becomes equally cumbersome.
Jayofthezero commented on Tomas's post: @Tomas: Sure, but in the mean time it can be a nice stop gap.
Jayofthezero commented on Tomas's post: @Tomas: Ah, I see that. Works well if you're just making a simple thing for the net. Manuals and Online texts would work well with that. Still don't think it could replace everything a word document can do though, especially when it comes to more complex formatting.
Jayofthezero commented on Tomas's post: Pretty easy to write a Greasemonkey/Stylish script for that.
Jayofthezero commented on Tomas's post: @Tomas: That's weird. Any examples? I've never seen anybody use it like that.
Jayofthezero commented on Tomas's post: It would get cumbersome way too quickly since it's mainly designed around the idea of using symbols and shorthands to create formatting that a human can use. In the end we'll probably end up with something similar to HTML and CSS, if not just flat out use HTML and CSS.

Jayofthezero commented on Musickiller's post: @Musickiller: The point to removing the blue light is to make it easier to transition to sleeping, so transitioning to normal light isn't a priority for me when it's dark. But I highly recommend checking out SunsetScreen.
Jayofthezero commented on ZAlex's post: It has? I must've missed the download buttons before then because last I checked there wasn't a way to download it.
Jayofthezero commented on Nicolai Ireneo-Larsen's post: Unless there's an API that I missed, no. When downloading a file from ZeroNet your browser isn't actually downloading it, ZeroNet is. Once ZeroNet has downloaded it the browser can access the local copy. Only exception to this that I know of is ZeroMux which chunks up large files into pieces before adding them for sharing on ZeroNet. When a user then downloads the file it's actually asking for a bunch of small files, so for example when 5 out of 100 pieces are downloaded, 5% is known to be complete. Once the user has all the pieces, javascript in their browser then combines them on-the-fly into one coherent file they can save or view. Though the latest ZeroNet update seems to have broken ZeroMux and it hasn't been updated yet.
Jayofthezero commented on Zgbw's post: What?
Jayofthezero commented on RiotPulv's post: Well, there's the very alpha [ZeroMusic](http://127.0.0.1:43110/1MusicXkuN2pk5hRdmroeyaCLDJtzTicpB/). It can take a bit for a track to load though since it has to find a peer with the file and sometimes they're on TOR which is slow. There's also no playlist or station functions. Just pick a single song, wait for it to download, and then play. 27GB+ of music has been added. Naturally you only seed the files you've downloaded unless you decide to be generous and download the entire 27GB+ of music. Once you've downloaded a track it'll stay on your computer to be played at any time until deleted manually.
Jayofthezero commented on Musickiller's post: As a creator of a ZeroMe clone I can tell you that I never see any user data, ever. The reason for that is because ZeroMe is actually just a front-end to the Hubs, where all the user data is actually kept. It runs locally on your computer where your local ZeroNet is in charge of updating the data in the Hubs you access. So you shouldn't be scared of ZeroMe clones, since the data is controlled by the Hubs. But you shouldn't be scared of hubs either. Since everything you post is signed locally by your private key, so any modifications can easily be detected by the public key you share. Your ZeroNet private key never leaves your PC.
Jayofthezero commented on Arsene Lupin's post: Contact @Kaffie: about it. She can fix it for you. I think your site just isn't indexed. A lot of sites fall through the cracks since it still isn't practical to crawl Zeronet for sites like Google does.
Jayofthezero commented on Musickiller's post: Cool. Though I have a backlit keyboard so it's never been a problem. The light is red too so it doesn't strain my eyes. I use SunsetScreen to Dim and Tint my display as well.

Though you can disable it using an addon like these: ~~~ ~~~ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/cors/ ~~~ ~~~ https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/moesif-origin-cors-change/digfbfaphojjndkpccljibejjbppifbc ~~~ ~~~ Here's a test page I made: ~~~ ~~~ http://127.0.0.1:43110/1FyYahC8sKVYfsPQXEzuRjXNDQeb6Y2xno/__example-player__.html ~~~ Looks like latest ZeroNet completely broke ZeroMux. It has to be fixed.
Jayofthezero commented on Kaffie's post: @Kaffie: Yep, it's happening in other browsers too. But I can't think of why. The only thing special about my Zeronet install is a slightly modified UIPassword plugin that exempts 127.0.0.1 from password protection.
Jayofthezero commented on Kaffie's post: @Kaffie: Okay, this is weird. I entered `http://localhost:43110/1HeLLo4uzjaLetFx6NH3PMwFP3qbRbTf3D` and got this: ``` Forbidden Invalid host: localhost:43110 ``` Doesn't affect my other local servers so it's not a direct Firefox issue and seems to be Zeronet itself for some reason.
Jayofthezero commented on Kaffie's post: @Kaffie: Yeah the `http://zero/` links error out with ``` Forbidden Invalid host: zero ``` My Firefox proxy settings are properly setup with the exact PAC file you provide.
Jayofthezero commented on Kaffie's post: Hmmm, `http://zero/` doesn't seem to work for me anymore. It did in the past. I'm already using the `.pac` file and `zero://` links work fine. The "Register Protocol" button doesn't seem to do anything for me. I'm using Firefox Dev Edition v55.0b7 (64-bit) on Windows 10
Jayofthezero commented on Musickiller's post: You can't embed videos. ZeroNet still isn't very video friendly. There's been a few experiments with WebTorrents, IPFS, and a project called ZeroMux that uses a python tool to break large files and videos into chunks ahead of time and then has a custom embeded player that will properly request the chunks and mux them on the fly for playback in any standard ZeroNet install. PS: Posting/Embedding clearnet videos in a Zite is frowned on unless you state before hand that it's a clearnet link.

First they have to somehow discover your supposed under-the-table wealth, then they... do what? Confiscate your computer? That won't help, your bitcoins are stored in the blockchain. They'd need your key, which maybe you stored clear text on your PC, but probably not. So they'd need the password, if they figured out where your keys are, but how are they going to get that out of you? It's so clear how this was crafted by old men/women that have zero knowledge of how technology works. So in the end they'd shove you in prison for 5 years for absolutely no reason, turning you into a burden on the taxpayer because you're no longer a contributing member of society for those 5 years, and might never be again with how much a criminal record screws up your job prospects. Besides, statistically, election fraud in places like the US is abysmally low, despite the claims by people like Trump. In the US at least there's no real need to push for such technology anytime soon. If anything, Republican law makers want to make it more cumbersome to vote, not easier. And foreign influences have discovered it's much easier and safer to instead manipulate and sway public opinion via things like the Internet, rather than actually getting illegal votes.

Jayofthezero commented on Jmsebastian's post: @Jmsebastian: If you already have them formatted for HTML it might be easier to just adapt your existing HTML so that it plays nice with Zeronet(remove external sources, make paths relative, etc) and then straight publishing that to Zeronet instead of importing them into Zeroblog. Just make sure to add the `"optional": "(.*.jpg|.*.png|.*.gif)",` to your `content.json` file to make the images and other large files an optional download instead of something that has to be downloaded up front. I did a rough job of this myself when I wanted to archive a TED talk webpage. Here's the result: http://127.0.0.1:43110/14MQWAD4DNSWx52pidtux4oQXz4gTn4B5f/ Though depending on how your stuff is structured it could be more work than it's worth. So supposedly 8chan is moving to ZN. Not sure if this is official or just a dedicated fan, but a thing is a thing. I'm not gonna bash anybody that wants to use it, but personally I don't want the risk of downloading it. So I've made a blocklist for it. Feel free to add it if you so desire.

8chan Blocklist

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 07, 2019Reply

@Nekololi: Unless you manually edit files, you have to open a zite to add it to your personal blocklist. Not something everybody wants to do. And as I said my, priority was just to get 8chan onto a blocklist. I made it in only a few minutes after the news came out. I'll add more in the future, this was just the priority. It's up to people if they find it useful.

Nekololi · nekololi@zeroid.biton Aug 07, 2019Reply

designing a blocklist that will only ever have 1 entry in it is kind of asinine. you don't need to create a blocklist to block 1 site, if that was all you wanted to do.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 06, 2019Reply

@styromaniac@zeroid.bit: I thought other ones were already on other blocklists people have shared. And my priority was 8chan which hadn't been added to any of the lists I know of yet.

yes, whoever visit 08chan zite and not delete it after that, will help distribute texts on it (i bet the .db - database which is mandatory part of the zite, contains all the onsite texts right?). Btw. the site DB is now 3MB, just after 2 days?

Ugh, WaterFox isn't working out for me since it doesn't have, of all things, Pocket support. Mozilla picked up Pocket and integrated it into FF a while back, but the people who make WaterFox didn't like that so they stripped it from WF. Thing is, I use Pocket, and without that integration there's no decent way to use Pocket in WF. There's a third-party addon, but it doesn't support tags, which I use all the time.

Oh well, I'm back to FF56. It's starting to look like I'll have to make the jump to FF Quantum eventually now. Thankfully most of my addons have finally made the jump, or I've found decent alternatives. But two major missing addons is Session Manager and Tab Groups. The "alternative" recommended for Session Manager is an incomplete mess, and Tab Group like addons are currently impossible because all the needed APIs aren't ready yet despite them forcing the transition XP

The Quantum transition has been a complete mess.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 25, 2018Reply

@leftside: Most of the add-ons I care about have been ported to FF Quantum or replaced now so I made the jump. Some things still missing a few minor pieces of functionality, and there's still not as extensive a session manager available yet, but i'm pretty much satisfied.

leftside · leftside@zeroid.biton Aug 23, 2018Reply

that's why i'm still staying in 52 ESR.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Nov 22, 2017Reply

@Krixano: Tab Groups used to be built-into FF, but Mozilla removed it since they didn't feel it was worth the development time. But because of the wonders of open-source, somebody took the old code and turned it into an add-on so people could get the feature back, and eventually have it improved.

Krixano · krixano@zeroid.biton Nov 19, 2017Reply

@Jayofthezero: That's a good point. Didn't something like Tab Groups used to be in firefox itself without an addon, like a while ago? I remember there being that same icon that Tab Groups uses.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Nov 19, 2017Reply

@Krixano: Yeah, that's built into FF now.

Krixano · krixano@zeroid.biton Nov 19, 2017Reply

I don't know how similar this is to Tab Groups, but there's the Firefox Containers addon which was from the Test Pilot, but "graduated" to an add-on because of the great reception (according to this blog post). It works on FF Quantum. You can get it here.

I've been playing around with this new compression tool called CompactGUI. https://github.com/ImminentFate/CompactGUI

It's pretty neat as it surfaces some hidden compression functionality in Windows 10 that allows seamless compression of programs and files without impacting the performance of those programs or reading of the files. Works great for games or even Adobe Photoshop with no perceivable loss in loading or fps.

Though I've made the mistake of trying it on the directory containing ZeroNet. With the thousands of small files in there the thing is taking forever, and I'm probably not actually gaining much out of it with all the constant changes being made to those files XP

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Oct 08, 2017

Think I finally found my Firefox life raft.

Waterfox is based on Firefox with some privacy minded tweaks and unsigned extension support enabled. After they hit v56 later this month they'll be making it an ESR(Unlike Mozilla :P), so that it'll still get security fixes while still supporting the old Firefox addons that Mozilla plans to retire in Firefox v57. This should give me more time to either find alternatives to addons that won't make the transition, or wait for devs to finish the transition to WebExtensions.

They've also announced tentative plans to completely fork Firefox v56 and continue development of the old Addon platform, as well as expanding the APIs for WebExtensions to enable close to the same flexibility as the old platform allows. If I just can't transition to FireFox v57+, depending on how well development on the new browser does I might permanently switch to it instead.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Oct 06, 2017

Funny enough, I found a workaround for ZeroUp's filetype limit. Back in ZeroNet v0.5.3 compressed archive support was added so you can compress files but still load them in the browser, but at the time it wasn't recommended to have archives larger than a few MB because of the lack of Big File support. So today I noticed somebody uploaded a BBC Radio MP3 as a TAR GZ file, and this reminded me of this feature and that note. So I thought, "What if I just added the location of the MP3 to the end of the URL to trigger the archive support?"

And guess what? It works.

╰( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )つ──☆*:・゚

EDIT: Looks like the compressed archive function doesn't know to first request the big file function to start downloading the file first. So you have to first get ZeroNet to start downloading the archive(easiest way is to click the "+Seed" button in ZeroUp), and then click the link to MP3 or whatever file inside the archive. Hopefully @Nofish: can correct this in the future so that the compressed archive feature can become more useful.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Oct 07, 2017Reply

@Musickiller: Yeah, you could do that. But some of the songs won't load unless the whole file is downloaded.

Musickiller · musickiller@zeroid.biton Oct 07, 2017Reply

@Jayofthezero: Interesting thing to try is to upload there a whole album and give here links to each song. Would that work?

@Musickiller: Ah, I figured that out. Looks like compressed archive support needs a few tweaks to be fully compatible with Big File support. For now you have to first start the download by opening the original file and then open the MP3.

So the release of Firefox 57 is coming up, with it's abandonment of the old add-on platform. So to see how many of my addons make the transition so far, I downloaded the latest portable build of Firefox Dev Edition. I started it up, reasonably impressed with the new slimmed design and performance, then logged into sync to have it download all my stuff.

The result? 4 addons installed. uBlock Origins, Pushbullet, Privacy.com, and Reddit Enhancement. That's it. 90% of my addons were rejected. Many of them are niche and my hopes for them getting updated by release of v57 are low. For others I've read several of the devs of my addons rant that it's pretty much impossible for them to move to WebExtensions since it doesn't have the needed APIs for their addons to actually do the thing they were designed for.

So far things like Tab Groups are causalities because they don't have the needed APIs to actually "group" the tabs together and switch them out. Others like DownThemAll can't get any kind of direct file writing permission, which is needed for its bulk multi-threaded downloads to work. Greasemonkey isn't happy with the amount of control over incoming javascript they're allowed, as it's creating performance issues and security concerns. And the list goes on.

So I guess I'm stuck on old Firefox for a while. I've already disabled updates on my default Firefox DevEd v56b11. Any recommends on a Firefox fork that keeps support for the old addons while still receiving security updates and new features?

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Oct 05, 2017Reply

@Nekololi: I use a lot of niche addons with no replacements that haven't been updated in a while, some like Tab Groups have no current replacements and the dev says he's given up trying to port it due to API issues. So I'm not holding my breath :P

Nekololi · nekololi@zeroid.biton Oct 05, 2017Reply

i thought it was gloom and doom initially. i had a serious headache looking at an entirely full list of addons that would become broken. but after spending a couple of days playing with new extensions, some of which were even better than what i was using before, i've narrowed down the "Legacy" ones to just a few, some of which have web-extension versions in the works.

greasemonkey sounds like they're going to have something working for 57+. i don't really know about downthemall's situation, but i know they threw a tantrum.. i just removed it because it's been several years since the last time i actually needed it.

i'm sure most of your addons will be up and running in the new firefox, and i'm sure a short lived firefox fork will splinter off for those who are unable to move forward.

I hate how Google and app makers are cracking down on Rooted phones just because of fringe risks like Piracy and cheaters. Nobody would pirate something off a phone, there's easier ways to rip video, and for online cheaters there are plenty of ways a proper developer could mitigate cheaters on the server side. People teleporting in Pokemon Go? Well obviously if they traveled faster than an airplane could to a location than they are cheating, and simple server tracking of inventory could prevent somebody from gaining a million pokeballs. You have the algorithms at hand, you know how much should be possible in normal gameplay to predict this stuff, use them!

Attempts to play the flamma idola symlink resulted in the same problem as last time; see lines 22-23, 26-27, and 29-30. Given that the symlink and the numeric file shown are supposed to be identical, it's not surprising that the two are failing in the same manner. Have you tried manually editing the size key in content.json for both to match du -b <file>?. @Rythyrix: Anything that has 'symlink' at the end is symlinked on my computer. Ideally they should all work, but if they don't, then it's best to look into it. All the numerically-named mp3s were just uploaded normally and should work fine with no issue. Those are the ones with regular music names (I'm just uploading them to resign/publish as my sidebar seems to not work properly 100% of the time).

To be explicit, the symlinks should be:

Artists/-LostFairy-/lostfairy2.mp3.mp3 //oh shit I just realized why this one wasn't working. Damn.
Artists/Yousei Teikoku/Pax Vesania/11-yousei_teikoku-kuusou_mythology-jrp.mp3
Artists/Yousei Teikoku/flamma idola/01. flamma idola.mp3
Artists/ZREO/02_The_Adventure_of_Link/Battle.mp3

All of which should be named with the '- symlink' at the end. I didn't change the symlinks on my end at all. I was just changing how I pushed things. I'll try fixing the lostfairy song and see how it goes.

data/users/1NWh3WAty57FH8at1WtrZigMrdhrDkuPzh/Artists$ ls
Yousei Teikoku ZREO 孤塔の情景

so I don't think that mkdir is to blame. Perhaps spaces in the file paths are to blame? When I try to play the non-symlink flamma idola, this logdump appears.

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: Alright, I tried uploading a couple more using a similar method. ZREO - Adventure of Link - Battle - symlink test and Yousei Teikoku - Kuusou Mythology - symlink test. I've been trying to upload -LostFairy- - イツワリの檻 - symlink test but it's just being horribly broken for some reason.

Are any of those working for you? The first two seem to work on proxies just fine, and I have them symlinked, rather than pasted right in the folder.

Edit: looks like the proxy put it in the right spot: https://0netproxy.ml/1MusicXkuN2pk5hRdmroeyaCLDJtzTicpB/data/users/1NWh3WAty57FH8at1WtrZigMrdhrDkuPzh/Artists/ZREO/02_The_Adventure_of_Link/Battle.mp3

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Kaffie: Probably connection issues. The two that aren't Animating were there long before Jayofthezero's post, and they worked fine, so they probably only exist on my comp and the proxy you tried.

EDIT: I went and grabbed the logs when I open ZeroMusic and attempt to play your non-symlink file via pressing the play button next to it; the most obvious errors are at line 63, where the hash fails for 3515.mp3, and at line 5, where it states the size is too large, despite my node's optional files switch on. Can you try another file that is less than 10mb, to remove one PoF?

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: None of your songs work for me, but the proxy is able to play one of the Animating Automatons.

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: Alright I fucked around with it some more and I got everything syncing with the proxy server and it plays for some weird reason. But every time I try to sign it gives me:

Site:1Music..icpB data/users/1NWh3WAty57FH8at1WtrZigMrdhrDkuPzh/content.json parse error: NameError: global name 'Debug' is not defined in ContentManager.py line 213 > ContentDbDict.py line 61 > ContentDbPlugin.py line 206 > ContentDbPlugin.py line 163

But when I publish anyway it goes ahead and works >_>. There's some weird stuff going on in my content.json too, take a look:

"Artists/Yousei Teikoku/flamma idola/01. flamma idola.mp3": {
   "content_inner_path": "data/users/1NWh3WAty57FH8at1WtrZigMrdhrDkuPzh/content.json",
   "optional": true,
   "relative_path": "Artists/Yousei Teikoku/flamma idola/01. flamma idola.mp3",
   "sha512": "f3e5823e3262dd8e8104b501e419297e87a58f0126585b0b0e2a05b12124c8a5",
   "size": 10545792
  }

Most of that was generated automatically somehow, but I had to correct the sha512 and the size by copying over the other upload of the same song. I did the same for the data.json, incrementing ID by one, and adjusting the path accordingly.

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Kaffie: Damn it. The two nodes I have have differing copies my my content.json. Propagation issues? I'll try uploading a song via ZeroMusic's GUI. EDIT: Done. New music should be index number 3414 under Reverbrony > All or Nothing. Plays on node upon which I uploaded, other node has received json, waiting on song dl.

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: I don't see any copies of Animating. You only have two songs uploaded, and neither match.

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Kaffie: If that's true, then I think that the signing button under the sidebar doesn't traverse symlinks. Looking at mine under data/users/18eGWSaM3Vc9i61LVfogjQJf5gp7EN7b9Y/content.json, you can see the two copies of Animating are both there. I did not use a symlink when signing it. Will you please try a standard subdirectory?

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: As I said, I manually pasted that in there. I signed through the sidebar, and then again by uploading the other song (track 2). Given the other song made it through fine, I can be certain that it indeed signed the stuff.

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Kaffie: Sums cannot be identical to another file if the file in question is not the exact same file, short of the alg being broken. Did you use the GUI tools under the sidebar when signing?

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: Nope. I shoved that in there myself. As you can see, the size and sha512 are identical to another file.

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Kaffie: "Artists/Yousei Teikoku/flamma idola/01. flamma idola.mp3": { "sha512": "aacdb81ae724ee1772a04eb0c8673afb6068692ef38b2331d5596ffc0d213978", "size": 1274011 }
So it did get traversed to when summing. Not sure why I can't dl it. Perhaps the spaces in the filepath, or maybe the JSfor ZeroMusic doesn't take subdirs into account, such as mkdir -p.

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: Just go take a look at my user folder: /data/1MusicXkuN2pk5hRdmroeyaCLDJtzTicpB/data/users/1NWh3WAty57FH8at1WtrZigMrdhrDkuPzh And you'll see what I did. I just have a symlink to my music folder in there as well. Not sure if I did something wrong, or if it's just not compatible...

Edit: for the symlink I did ln -s ~/Music/Artists/ Artists/

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Kaffie: This (clearnet) is what I see. I can play all save the top one. Looking at the same site on another node, I get this (also clearnet) under my missing files when attempting to play flamma idola.

Looking closely, my file is looking for a content.json, whilst yours is looking for the file itself. Any thoughts as to how that might be?

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: Okay I tried the symlink thing. It works 100% okay on my computer, but on the proxy it fails. At first it didn't even pull up the entry, but I managed to get it to do so. But now it just doesn't seem to play. Look up Yousei Teikoku - flamma idola. That one is the one where I tried the symlink. The other song was not, so it should work fine.

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Kaffie: I did. Shows up just fine on my node.

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: Did you sign/publish? I'm not seeing anything.

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Kaffie: Well, taking a look at the user directory of ZeroMusic, it looks like ZeroMusic assigns a numerical ID to each MP3 uploaded. I am not sure if it would create a given directory if required. Can you go to ZeroMusic, filter by artist for Reverbrony, and see if Animating Automatons is there? I just edited data.json by hand to include it in a subdirectory; need to see if ZeroMusic creates the directory.

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: Yeah it's all Mp3s, but I mean for the folder hierarchy, file names, etc.

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Kaffie: Is your collection entirely made up of MP3s? ZeroMusic only accepts MP3s.

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: I had a general idea of what symlinks are. I just have no idea how I'd easily and quickly do it for my entire music library in the format that ZeroMusic wants.

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Kaffie: Symlinks are a feature of Windows, macOS and GNU/Linux at a minimum. They are special, small files interpreted by the kernel for to point to somewhere else on the filesystem, which the kernel treats as that file. Some caveats apply, such as symlink traversal depth being limited on some systems. They have multiple uses such as providing a single filename for applications to reference a library, enabling easy updating of the library, or allowing access to a certain subdirectory of a filesystem without exposing the rest of it. Hard links are a second reference to the inode in which a given file's data is stored on disk. The two have different low-level advantages; symlinks are seperate files, and as such take inodes of their own, but can point anywhere in the filesystem, whilst hard links do not, but cannot point outside the partition in which their file is located, and all hard links must be deleted to dereference the file from the filesystem and allow the computer to use that space as something else. Try here for a macOS symlink tutorial.

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: I'm completely clueless on that stuff, sorry. Sounds like it'd be a huge pain.

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

Also, digging around in eyeD3's options, there's an option for setting the play count of a given MP3. The fact that such a thing exists is disturbing, as that's a means of tracking number of listens and thus triggering DRM.

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Kaffie: Test if symlinks are things on macOS and if ZeroNet will traverse them on it. ZN doesn't for GNU/Linux. I suppose hard links would work too, even saving an inode per file.

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: My hard drive can't handle it haha. I'd have to upload and then promptly delete all the files. I don't have 13gb of free space.

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Jun 11, 2017Reply

@Kaffie: Dump it. My hard drive isn't full, thus not enough music.

A fellow user, @ScrubTheSecond: Posted an interesting quiz called "8values" on here a few days ago. It was actually really interesting, and from my unscientific testing, pretty accurate. However it was a clearnet site using third-party trackers, which is a big "No" for some fellow Zeronet users. But I realized that it was hosted on GitHub, and was in fact open-source. So I cloned it, removed all the third-party scripts, and thus created:

8values on Zeronet

I'm starting to think we need to have language filters on ZeroMe.

I like people from China, but you have to admit it gets tedious having to scroll through dozens of Chinese posts just to find one in a language I understand. Even if I try to participate in the Chinese posts it gets really cumbersome to translate everything using GT, even with the handy Firefox Addon I have, and even then the translation quality is mixed.

So @Nofish: Is it practical to implement such a feature? Maybe using the default language people have set? Though we'd have to figure out a way for people to post in a different language if they desire to...

Thedarkjeff · thedarkjeff@zeroid.biton Jul 15, 2017Reply

I kinda agree. There's quite a lot of chinese people on here and whenever I'm looking for zeronet sites I'd prefer seeing english content as being prioritized.

Weird. Just upgraded my modem and now I can't get port 15441 to open. Zeronet told my modem using UPNP to open the port, and it says it did, but the external port checks turn up negative. I tried manually setting the port forward, and same result. Canyouseeme.org says it can't see it. You'd think it was my ISP, but I didn't have trouble with my previous modem. So you'd then expect my modem is to blame, but I've got several other ports opened through it and Canyouseeme says those are working fine. I'm stumped.

What was the Zeronet flag for changing the port? Maybe a different port will make it happy.

@Jayofthezero: Thanks for sharing your experience, it could be useful for other people.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton May 03, 2017Reply

@Jayofthezero: Wow, turns out the reason it wasn't working is that Windows marked my new router as a "Public" network. This applied more restrictive firewall rules, blocking Zeronet. Ironically UPNP isn't blocked though :P

Partially my fault for not checking for that, but I also blame Microsoft for burying the setting in recent versions of Windows. It used to be clearly stated how Windows treated a network, and it was straight forward to switch it. Now who knows what corner things are buried in these days.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Apr 13, 2017Reply

@Nofish: Thanks for the consideration. Due to the recent repeal of the ISP customer privacy rules in the US, I want to shift over to using my VPN most of the time, especially when my ISP has already stated its desire to exploit. Since I've been unsuccessful with getting Zeronet to work with my VPN's Remote ports I want to at least let it bypass the VPN.

http://127.0.0.1:43110/1HmJ7GadjdiQUPevaK7QXVrK4nhyCp1fSj/?Post/1BLueGvui1GdbtsjcKqCf4F67uKfritG49/16nArdxrSaNThNp83kL8E6NLL9WD98iUne/1488835102
The problem with this URL is that it'll redirect anybody using ZeroMe to Dark ZeroMe.

But if I use this URL:
http://127.0.0.1:43110/Me.ZeroNetwork.bit/?Post/1BLueGvui1GdbtsjcKqCf4F67uKfritG49/16nArdxrSaNThNp83kL8E6NLL9WD98iUne/1488835102
People using Dark ZeroMe will be redirected to normal ZeroMe (blinding them in the process).

The solution?
./?Post/1BLueGvui1GdbtsjcKqCf4F67uKfritG49/16nArdxrSaNThNp83kL8E6NLL9WD98iUne/1488835102
Just make a link using Markup like so:
[Click Me!](./?Post/1BLueGvui1GdbtsjcKqCf4F67uKfritG49/16nArdxrSaNThNp83kL8E6NLL9WD98iUne/1488835102)
Click Me!

And the link will work no matter what ZeroMe you are using :)

Still thinking about the best way to link from outside ZeroMe though.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Mar 07, 2017

@Nofish:

Question,
Why did you base64 encode the fonts directly into the ZeroMe CSS? Wouldn't it be a better idea to just include them as separate files?

Thanks for your time.

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Mar 07, 2017Reply

@Jayofthezero: It is on my old machine (core2duo) I could feel the difference. (not to mention it's lot faster to download 1 file from the network, than 4)
Probably http/2 would help this issue, but there is no support for that yet.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Mar 07, 2017Reply

@Nofish: Didn't think the HTTP requests would be more of a performance issue than base64 decoding.
The more you know :)

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Mar 07, 2017Reply

Actually I also did this before the UiPassword plugin, because less http request = faster speed load. On slower computers you can feel the difference even if the files are loaded from localhost.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Mar 07, 2017Reply

@Firebox: Ah, that would also explain why your Media streaming demos weren't working for me. Disabled UIPassword and they suddenly started working.

Quick Update to Dark ZeroMe

I realized that NoFish added a class to the @ mentions, and realizing that black text on dark grey isn't the best, I tried adding some light grey background to it, rounded the corners, and padded it out. Let me know what you think.

PS: I also changed the black text in the user listings to a dim orange since that was even worse than the @ mentions.

UPDATE: I tweaked the @ mentions a bit more, then had to tweak the Code boxes since they were now colliding with the @ mentions. I think I've gotten everything balanced now, though let me know your opinions.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Mar 07, 2017Reply

@P2P: PR?
But yeah that'd be the plan, but it probably won't happen soon. For now though, if you really want to start messing with your own themes then all you have to do is clone ZeroMe for yourself and then edit all.css. Firefox's Web Developer Tools are really nice if you want to edit CSS on a live page.

P2P · p2p@zeroid.biton Mar 07, 2017Reply

@Jayofthezero: THX! Why not make it as a theme option in ZeroMe, which can be a PR to ZeroMe? With that users can easily switch between themes.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Mar 07, 2017Reply

@Rythyrix: I've been thinking of making it more modular as it would make it easier on me too. But the trick is that I have to sometimes tweak the javascript as well which complicates things, though I've been working around it recently. Currently I'm directly editing the all.css in order to lessen modifications to the javascript since the more modifications to that the more tedious it is to merge updates to ZeroMe. (ZeroMePlus is a nice example of a heavy modification of ZeroMe) After I have that sorted out and clean up my CSS I might look into making a Javascript interface for people to upload their own CSS, but that's a dream for when I have free time XD

Rythyrix · rythyrix@zeroid.biton Mar 07, 2017Reply

Just as a thought: ZeroMe is open-source; have you thought about modding ZeroMe to support user-defined themes and posting a pull request? I can see the other side of this argument too; that doing so centralizes ZeroMe more than different zites for different themes.

Dark ZeroMe Updated

All 20-50 of you can stop being annoyed at me now XD

I've finally gotten around to updating Dark ZeroMe to be in parity with standard ZeroMe. Though I still don't have time to implement any of the extras that things like ZeroMe+ have.

You can tell you got the update by the "updated Mar 6, 2017" added next to the logo. Though you might need to clear your browser cache to get it completely working.

As always if you think I've missed anything please let me know.

PS: If anybody knows where is the javascript/css for the slight blue glow when you select the comment textbox, I'd appreciate it. I haven't managed to track it down, though it's probably obvious and I'm just stupidly missing it.

Update: I also went through and cleaned a few things up and excluded some random extra backup files that have been included by accident. Oh, and I threw in the new extra languages.

@Nofish: Thanks. Guess I still need to delete that comment though.

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Aug 25, 2016Reply

It's happening because the query is looking for the comments and not for the post. Just added auto unfollow on post delete feature to avoid this.

ɃǾȾ · bot@zeroid.biton Aug 24, 2016Reply

Good catch.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 24, 2016Reply

@Nofish: I was trying out the new "Follow in newsfeed" for posts. I created a post with "Test" as its body, followed it, and then commented to see if the comments appeared in the news feed. They did, so having no need for the post anymore I deleted it. However the notice about the comments remains in the newsfeed, but with a link that goes nowhere now.

Since I'm lucky enough that I own the comments for that post, theoretically if I delete them manually from my .json then the notice should disappear. But that doesn't solve the issue if I didn't own the comments.

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Aug 24, 2016Reply

The entries come directly from site's database, so it's not stored anywhere. Can you explain the problem?

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 21, 2016

Merged latest ZeroMe changes into Dark ZeroMe. Accidentally broke some of my CSS while merging, which I think I managed to fix afterwards, but if you notice anything wonky please let me know.

In the future I plan on modularizing my CSS from the normal ZeroMe CSS in order to ease future merges, but I need to find time in order to to extract my theming from the current code. The current direct edit method caused by my laziness coming back to bite me :P

Sorry for the delay Dark ZeroMe users. I just pushed the latest update using the latest ZeroMe code. This includes the new Follow mentions/comments feature. Just take note that you shouldn't follow both ZeroMe and Dark ZeroMe, otherwise you'll get duplicate updates from both sites. If you've followed ZeroMe and not Dark ZeroMe, those updates will link you to ZeroMe. So just be aware that clicking on those updates in Hello Zeronet will take you to the bright white theme of ZeroMe.

Again sorry for the delay. I had finished merging the code last night, but then I passed out, slept through my alarm, and woke up at noon. So the yard work I was planning on doing in the cool morning had to be done in the hot sun :P So I didn't have a chance to publish the update until just now.

Fun Fact: I'm currently seeding 87 Zites, with a total disk usage of 376MB.

If you average that out that's about 4.3MB per zite. Pretty good cost ratio there. With today's storage prices I could easily host several thousand zites for around $10, which is the cost of a 32GB sdcard that I could leave plugged into my laptop. Sure in the future zites will get bigger, but that's still easily a few thousand. Can't wait for there to be more interesting zites to seed.

I realized that I hadn't accounted for code markdown thanks to @Kaffie's post so I threw that in last minute.

I'm still looking for impressions on Dark ZeroMe's theme and functionality. Any comments would be apreciated.

I noticed @Scrub's comment about a Markdown tooltip in the posting box, and I'm looking into it for Dark ZeroMe, but it probably won't be coming in a hurry. I need to design how it'll fit into the page, and then figure out how to cram it into all.js, neither of which will be easy for me.

ɃǾȾ · bot@zeroid.biton Aug 14, 2016Reply

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Aug 14, 2016Reply

@Jayofthezero: As an FYI, 'all.js' is a file generated by compiling the various .coffee files which make up ZeroMe's source code. It's not JS though, so if you're not familiar with coffeescript, it might make it harder to develop. If you look at the all.js, you can see comments of the .coffee file boundaries (where the files start/end). It might make it easier to develop your tweaks if you just fork the project on github and then pull the various official updates into your branch.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 14, 2016Reply

@Scrub: It would be nice, but would require a lot of JS work(Not my strong suit).

The complicated part of ZeroMe is that most of the site is generated dynamically from "all.js". I can't just change things around in there all willynilly as it would make it harder to merge upstream changes in ZeroMe. So I have to look at and understand how and why "all.js" does things before I can start making major changes.

My goal isn't to make a new ZeroMe front-end, I sadly don't have the time to support that. What I can do is tweak the current ZeroMe front-end, and keep it up-to-date with the latest changes in ZeroMe. You'll have to ask someone else, or figure it out on your own, if you want anything more complicated done.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 14, 2016Reply

@Mynameislegion: Yeah I get it, we all have our own preferences :)

Scrub · scrub@zeroid.biton Aug 14, 2016Reply

I have a suggestion, though it will take some work and some more space. Have a custom theme section where the end-user can tweak the colours and save it. That would be nice.

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Aug 14, 2016Reply

I get your point...it's just what first came to my mind when looking at the page.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 14, 2016Reply

@Mynameislegion: I can appreciate that, though I prefer a bit more contrast and Teal/Beige isn't my preferred color scheme. Darker blues are my personal favorites, despite what DZM's current theme might suggest, but I scrapped blue because it has a tendency to disappear when using screen tinters like "f.lux". The original purpose of DZM was, as it's name suggests, to provide a Dark mode for people in dim environments, or for nighttime viewing. Sadly, your suggested color scheme doesn't fit with those requirements.

Though I suppose I could create a separate T/B themed ZeroMe, but it isn't a priority at the moment.

As for going material theme, that's even more work, but sounds interesting. However, again, not a priority for me right now.

Mynameislegion · mynameislegion@zeroid.biton Aug 14, 2016Reply

It is nice, but I would change some colors...e.g. check out the page http://paletton.com/#uid=23i0u0k1Xqw4Fvi3tot56l+76k8

or Android material design: https://material.google.com/style/color.html#color-color-palette

In my personal opinion, this orange doesn't go well with the grey

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016

Ok, I was able to fix my login in a ZeroMe clone by copying the ZeroMe.db file from a working ZeroMe to the non-working one. Of course this doesn't help people having the issue that don't already have a working ZeroMe. Still need to track down what exactly is missing before we have a solid fix. Though @Nofish will probably just fix the root cause before then.

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

@Jayofthezero: Probably browser caching issue. If you modify css/js always open the js console, check disable caching and press F5

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

@Nofish: ( -_-) sigh
Now it magically starts working and I can't figure out why. Sorry about wasting your time.

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

@Jayofthezero: Added some more debug messages, please update and paste the js console messages (F12) into a pastebin or mail: hello@zeronet.io

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

@Nofish: I did, doesn't seem to help.

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

@Jayofthezero: It was fixed earlier today, you should update your all.js file.

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

There is a db rebuild button at the sidebar, you can use it anytime to generate a new ZeroMe.db from the json data files.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016

Ok, seeing as I'm having issues with my own account I want to at least confirm my ZeroMe clone is working.

So I now present "Dark ZeroMe"

http://127.0.0.1:43110/1HmJ7GadjdiQUPevaK7QXVrK4nhyCp1fSj

Please give it a whirl :)

After it asks to merge, simply select your username and wait a bit as it loads. All your ZeroMe data should load and it should operate just as ZeroMe would.

I created this as the white theme of ZeroMe is quite glaring at night, and doesn't look so good when using f.lux. After hearing how ZeroMe is pretty much just a front-end for the hubs that hold all of the actual data, I realized that means anybody can create/modify their own ZeroMe "client". And thus Dark ZeroMe was born!

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Aug 14, 2016Reply

@Jayofthezero: To change the username colors search for "saturation = 30" and change it for example to 70 and also bump to lightness = 70

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 14, 2016Reply

@Scrub: Well the text in the text box was already white, so all I can do is make the background even darker.

Usernames are going to take a lot more work unfortunately. ZeroMe generates those colors randomly inside the JS, so it's not something I can tweak real quick in the CSS. I'll have to look into changing the JS the generates the colors, and I don't have time for that today. Though I can tweak the usernames inside Following and Activity feed. I'll try making those a bit brighter.

Scrub · scrub@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

@Jayofthezero: See where it says 'Write something...', that text is hard to read considering it's a similar color. Also, some usernames are extremely hard to read.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

@Scrub: I'm taking suggestions. What exactly do you find hard to read?

Scrub · scrub@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

Finally, something good for my eyes! Though the theme makes it kinda hard to read text. Anyway, it's still good. :D

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

@Compumatrix: There seems to currently be a bug in ZeroMe. Try closing Zeronet and then copying "\data\1MeFqFfFFGQfa1J3gJyYYUvb5Lksczq7nH\merged-ZeroMe\ZeroMe.db" to "\data\1HmJ7GadjdiQUPevaK7QXVrK4nhyCp1fSj\merged-ZeroMe\ZeroMe.db" and see if that fixes the issue.

Compumatrix · compumatrix@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

It does work. It loads. But that's it. Can't post yet.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

@ZAlex: Sorry about that. Please try again. I made sure to use a proxy to check if it was working this time.

ZAlex · zalex@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016

So I'm still having issues with my ZeroMe clones. Here's an image to better show my issues:

https://gateway.ipfs.io/ipns/QmcpgDW1BPEqBwbzq2JmySkFmcmAE9k1aV5kDeV5S5XxMk/2016-08-13%2009_11_45-ZeroMe%20Clone.png

I've straight up copy&pasted ZeroMe several times now, but the same issues keep appearing. Original ZeroMe works fine though. I'm honestly lost at this point.

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

I was unable to reproduce the problem, but pushed an another modification, plz try again

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

It's definitely something to do with the zerome.db file. I think the order that the hub info is added is what causes the glitch. Since to fix the login issues, all I did was delete every hub but my home hub, then rebuild the db, and download the other hubs again. I'll try it to see if it fixes these new issues.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

@Kaffie: Strange how it doesn't effect normal ZeroMe for me though. Unless that's because things are cached in ZeroMe.db... That might explain why only my clones seem effected.

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

I'm having the same issues on the actual ZeroMe site. It's not just you. Those errors happen when you're logged into a different hub/profile. But with the new 'fix', you get these weird mixed logins, where some stuff works and some doesn't.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016

AAUUGGGHHH!!
(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ Why?

Why are my ZeroMe clones screwed up!? Now the Activity feed is even showing up in the Profile page? Why!? I literally copy&pasted it without changing anything except content.json and all.css.

Щ(º̩̩́Дº̩̩̀щ)

And on top of that they think my hub is Red hub for some reason. I even checked all of the hub data using @Kaffie's guide and everything properly points to my Blue hub profile. So why does it think I'm Red?

I want to cry ( ╥_╥)

Nofish · nofish@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply
  • User's activity feed on profile page just added recently. (using it you can see user's latest comments)
  • I think i just fixed the hub detection, please update the all.js from the original site (make sure you clean the js cache by opening js console - F12 - and check disable cache on network tab)
Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016

Ok. So my ZeroMe clone is semi-functional. Things like Activity Feed and Following are busted, and I can't figure out why. They simply don't show up.

I've deleted ZeroMe.db so that it could be regenerated, but the newly generated file is still 100KB smaller than the original ZeroMe.db. This suggests that it's missing something, though I haven't been able to check what exactly. But the real question is why is it missing data?

ZeroMe itself is still perfectly functional, so that shows that the Hubs themselves are fine. So that means that the problem is with my clone, but I just can't find the reason. I only changed a total of three files:

  • all.css - modified
  • content.json - newly made
  • ZeroMe.db - deleted and regenerated

Did I miss something?

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

@Jayofthezero: Yea, all I did was literally just copy and paste the files to a new site and changed the 'address' bit in the content.json. Worked right out of the box.

Jayofthezero · jayofthezero@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

@Kaffie: If by double hubbing you mean joining more than one hub, then I don't think I am. This really doesn't make sense why my clone isn't working. Maybe I'll try making it from scratch again.

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Aug 13, 2016Reply

For the sake of being able to help, I just made a quick zerome clone. I'm posting from it now, and following/activity feed work just fine. Posting works, and this is my comment test. The ZeroMe.db is indeed 100kb smaller, which is kinda suspicious, but I haven't noticed anything missing.

All I did to clone was copy+paste files, and edit the content.json to correctly point to the right site. I also made small tweaks like a css tweak (changed the background to be green), and adding Kaffie hub as a default. I didn't delete the db at all.

If your following/activity feed are busted, make sure you aren't double hubbing, since those are the most noticeable things to go haywire.
