Eightyfour commented on KxoBot's post: @KxoBot: Good, we both don't care about the drama or each other. btw I'm not stooping to their level, I'm at their level and not stooping to yours. Not everything has to be productive, I don't go on the internet to be productive. I go on the internet to relax. The same is true for ZN. Pro-tip: tone down the condescension.
Eightyfour commented on nekololi's post: It will inevitably happen. If KxoBot or anyone else wants to segregate themselves from the rest of us, so be it, it's their choice. If they want to help other people do the same, as long as they consent to it, no problem. I think it's stupid to go around blocking people for their views, and I suggest we point and laugh at those who do so.
Eightyfour commented on KxoBot's post: @KxoBot, I like a lot of the work you are doing here but you're really acting ridiculously rn. Even out of context those remarks you took from me don't look bad. Duende was being an asshole so I responded in kind and I have nothing against QW, he just took one joke too seriously. Yes, you are being a drama queen and this post shows it. Not only are you engaging in drama, you're trying to get more people involved in the drama as well. As for the post I made that got me involved I was just remarking that in 6 months of me being here there's been pretty much no drama to speak of and now over the past couple of days there's been plenty, I didn't even take sides, just remarked that it was happening. Is that hypocritical of me? I dunno and don't care, I like some drama as entertainment from time to time. Is it productive for ZN though? No.

On top the internet is rampant with people who lie to get attention, money or special treatment. Treat everyone based on their actions and not proclaimed gender: problem solved!

Eightyfour commented on Realjohndoe's post: @Realjohndoe: Sure it's been hard for them to leave, and the EU has done everything to work against them. But their PM hasn't helped either, she's shown herself to be incompetent, and her party censorious on the homefront. The state of free speech is worse in Britain than in most of the rest of Europe (for now). It will only take a couple of years for the EU to be as bad and at least the UK citizens will be able to vote in people to repeal it (unlikely, but possible) while the people still in the EU will be powerless.
Eightyfour commented on Lostfile's post: You don't have a CoC. That's what makes it awesome. No authoritarian shits to tell you what you can or can't say. The owner of a zite can ban people from it, and each user can block users (or use blocklists made by others) to get rid of whatever it is they don't like. Let the crazies shut themselves in their echochambers. If the owner of a zite becomes censorious you could clone it and start a new one, or you could make a plugin that downloads "blocked" ids files anyway. Currently there have been no such cases so no one has had to do it, but we could.
Eightyfour commented on Krixano's post: I'll upload some OC soon, won't be anything mindblowing.

Eightyfour commented on Ktn's post: No, I'm just a figment of your imagination!
Eightyfour commented on Styromaniac's post: @Quantumworld: Man, I have that nightmare too sometimes. And then there's the one where Suze Wozniak demonizes all the money in my wallet whenever I am at a cash register. Or Mark Zucc comes to my birthday party and tells all of my friends and family about every stupid thing I've ever said or done while a man with an "NSA" hat is quietly making notes in the corner. When I call tech support for a computer problem Gill Bates comes visit me he tells me I'm running a backdoored pirated version of Fedora and installs a free copy of Windows E that refuses to start unless I chant "All Hail Corporatism". Lately it's mostly be Alev Loss who just stands next to my router and unplugs it whenever I post a meme, so I have to get a hammer and hit him over the head before he turns it back on again. It's definitely been getting worse recently.
Eightyfour commented on Styromaniac's post: yes, that would be good

Eightyfour commented on Kaffie's post: As much as this shows shoddy and unethical practices by the BBC, hate speech is a stretch. Also, have you read this? https://www.rt.com/op-ed/452511-social-media-censorship-bans/

Eightyfour commented on Piloth The Mack's post: Yeah, it's really neat. I was thinking of making a game engine to play the game, but I'd have to first understand the game's rules and they're not laid out very clearly for now.
Eightyfour commented on Eightyfour's post: @piloth@zeroid.bit: no problem mate, that's why I think we should make more blocklists so people can chose what they block (just nope, spam, nsfw, etc.) by subscribing to the relevant blocklist.
Eightyfour commented on Eightyfour's post: @piloth@zeroid.bit: yes, but that's users who post nope content, not spam.
Eightyfour commented on Eightyfour's post: @Piloth The Mack: I'm pretty sure that's only nope content (cp, terrorism, death threats, etc.) not spam.
Eightyfour commented on Eightyfour's post: @Realjohndoe: I muted them, but it'd just be more convenient if there was a community-driven spam blocklist to subscribe to.
Eightyfour commented on Quantumworld's post: @Kaffie: I'd like to add rape as valid reason for an abortion, even if no medical complications.
Eightyfour commented on Geekless's post: I've read your manifest and I'm not against the things you mentioned, but it all sounds like gay larping and that's something I'd advise against. Even though you clearly state your goal isn't to create an authority within ZeroNet, that is what people will think at first sight and this will work against us by deterring anarchistic individuals (ie. the type of people who might be interested in a decentralized network)
Eightyfour commented on leftside's post: This is possible in decentralized networks too, ZeroNet just doesn't offer it for the time being.
Eightyfour commented on FraYoshi's post: I've got Anthy on one computer and Mozc on another. I'll let you know which one I prefer when I've used them enough to know myself.
Eightyfour commented on Kaffie's post: @Kaffie: @Geekless: without Tor support you lose Chinese users, a lot of M-E users, probably Russian users too. On top of that there's plenty of users who don't need Tor but still value the option of using it being there (eg. they are worried about the future state of internet freedom in their countries). Sure, when things get worse the other networks might start implementing anonymization, but being ahead of the rest on that front is definitely a plus. . @FraYoshi: True, comparing ZeroNet and IPFS is unfair to both as they solve different problems. I was thinking about Dat/Beaker for my comparison.
Eightyfour commented on FraYoshi's post: We should be moving towards ZeroNet+IPFS.
Eightyfour commented on Kaffie's post: @Kaffie: IPFS isn't a ZeroNet rival and I imagine we'll have some form of convergence in the future (there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to download and host zeronet content through IPFS as well!) One of the other important reasons why ZeroNet is used more is Tor support.
Eightyfour commented on FraYoshi's post: @ssdifnskdjfnsdjk@zeroid.bit: it's going to get even worse. there's new counter-terrorist legislation on the table in the EU that looks to be an even worse censorship nightmare than the copyright directive. And chances are we'll be stuck with both of them.
Eightyfour commented on Lola's post: @Klu9: page load time is not always an advantage of ZeroNet, it depends on the situation. Eg. ZeroMe loads slower than Twitter if you download all hubs, even though I will never need most of this data. Social media within ZeroNet needs a serious rethink. But for sites such as blogs, this is a clear advantage. I think there's a lot ZeroNet could learn from the way RetroShare does social networking, but it's hard to imagine how these ideas could be implemented within the framework of ZeroNet (and whether that's something we want in the first place). **Archiving old content** Retroshare has a per-client-per-circle setting for how long you want to keep content. People can choose to keep it forever, or just a couple of days. The way ZeroMe is currently implemented this isn't really possible, but it's worth thinking about. **WOT** A Web Of Trust layer in ZeroNet could allow eg. searching hubs you don't have but a friend does by letting them do the search and send you the results. We're not really at a point where this is necessary, but it might help with scaling in the future.
Eightyfour commented on 00700's post: @Realjohndoe: I'm not denying what you say, but he *is* censorious, which is a big no in my book.
Eightyfour commented on Styromaniac's post: I won't go as far to say he should be killed, but I'm sure he'd taste great with some thyme.
Eightyfour commented on Lola's post: ZeroNet isn't just about censorship resistence, it's also about content persistence. As long as people within the network care about a site it won't go down. Another benefit is free and easy hosting, perfect to experiment with. Offline availability of content can also be useful in remote location or locations with unreliable internet.
Eightyfour commented on Styromaniac's post: > @Styromaniac: we know the science entirely Talk about hubris. "Look at this chromosomal exception, therefore cutting my dick off and inserting silicone in my chest makes me a woman now!" is not exactly a convincing argument. It's self mutilation. Transexuals should be taught to accept themselves for what they are, not chopped up and glued to fit their delusional self-image.
Eightyfour commented on Styromaniac's post: @Kaffie: Yes, they are defective males. In the same way that physiologically having a tail doesn't make one a monkey.
Eightyfour commented on Styromaniac's post: >[chromosomes are] entirely unrelated to one's biological sex that's what I mean
Eightyfour commented on Dractor's post: hello!
Eightyfour commented on Styromaniac's post: I honestly prefer TERFs over the LGBTQ+ activists. At least they aren't denying science.
Eightyfour commented on Schiz0's post: What's it mean? I don't speak pasta.
Eightyfour commented on Styromaniac's post: yes I dream of Steam, but it's a ZeroNet zite. Download your game in ZeroNet, download mods, maps and all that stuff in ZN, find people to play with on ZN, discuss the game, write guides etc. Things like Leaderboards, Achievements etc. would be a bit harder to implement though, but do we really need those?
Eightyfour commented on Kaffie's post: And I really appreciate the absence of mobs going after people left and right for the littlest things. This remains a generally friendly and polite place even though there's people with wildly differing opinions. (that will sadly change when it gets popular)
Eightyfour commented on ulrichard's post: I really like eating meat, and the government can tear my last steak from my cold dead jaws. But I eat vegetarian about 2-3 days in a week, in part because I prefer to cook vegetarian food over meat (I'm a bit lazy when it comes to cooking), but also because it's probably healthier for me and for the environment.
Eightyfour commented on 0x0's post: @caryoscelus: disabling canvas blocking didn't do it for me, but maybe I just did it wrong. Manually adding it would work, don't recommend the hassle though.
Eightyfour commented on 0x0's post: if you're on Tor Browser there's sadly no way to do so on ZeroMe because it uses Canvas elements to process the images, there's ways around this that zites like Millchan and 1+Gallery use, but the developer of ZeroMe hasn't implemented this yet. You could either temporarily use a browser that supports and doesn't block Canvas elements to upload your profile pic, then switch back, or you'll have to wait it out until an fix is made.

Eightyfour commented on Styromaniac's post: what would you say the most important functionalities/apps that ZeroNet needs are?
Eightyfour commented on Styromaniac's post: @Styromaniac: I learned that from my Information Security professor at Uni in his 101 lecture. As for breaking into system he told us something along the lines of «Encryption is hard, it takes a lot of brains and calculations. Unless you absolutely have to, don't bother trying to break it. Humans are much easier to break: fingers and toes can hurt a lot, throwing some money in the bureaucratic cogs is another effective way to break security. People are generally ill-informed and naïve, tell them confidently you're from IT and there's a problem you need their help with, chances are they'll just give you whatever it is you need without a second thought.» Most companies do a lot better these days at teaching employees how to handle calls from "IT" though, so it's not as effective anymore. Doesn't mean it isn't worth a try.

looks like we got some spammers zeronetisashi@zeroid.bit, kasjslg@zeroid.bit and goodone@zeroid.bit. Appears to be the same person. Should we make a spam blocklist?

Also lkgskhg@zeroid.bit

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Feb 07, 2019Reply

Followable mutelist for spammers here.

Kaffie · kaffie@zeroid.biton Feb 07, 2019Reply

I've been banning them from kaffiehub, and muting them on my own mutelist. Muting unfortunately doesn't prevent downloading/sharing apparently. But banning does. But I don't have access to every site to ban them from.

I think it's probably a good idea to get a mutelist for the chinese spammers at least. And if there was a way to auto-ban a followed list that'd be neat too.

I suggest that if y'all find "nope content" (in terms of CP or other things you don't want to share) that you don't rely on mutes, but instead rely on avoiding sites that allow that content. @nofish: is already aware of the problem of mutes still distributing content, and said he'd fix it after the python3 migration.

@Eightyfour: I agree with the idea of different kinds of mute and blocklists. Pedos, loli/shota, nsfw content, spammers, etc. That way people who don't want, say, pedos or spammers can follow those lists, while still allowing nsfw content.

As it stands, I'll be banning any of these chinese spammers (or any spammer) that pops up. Can't say the same for nofish's sites haha. Just gotta mute and move on I suppose.

Default blocklist for the new comers will do the job better.
Of course we have to make sure to inform them that they can remove items on the blocklist at their will as well. @Kaffie, @nofish

Eightyfour · eightyfour@zeroid.biton Feb 07, 2019Reply

@piloth@zeroid.bit: no problem mate, that's why I think we should make more blocklists so people can chose what they block (just nope, spam, nsfw, etc.) by subscribing to the relevant blocklist.

Eightyfour · eightyfour@zeroid.biton Feb 07, 2019Reply

@piloth@zeroid.bit: yes, but that's users who post nope content, not spam.

Eightyfour · eightyfour@zeroid.biton Feb 06, 2019Reply

@Piloth The Mack: I'm pretty sure that's only nope content (cp, terrorism, death threats, etc.) not spam.

Realjohndoe · realjohndoe@zeroid.biton Feb 06, 2019Reply

@Eightyfour: I don't trust third party proxies. They always get corrupted. And are often a Bitch! wolf in sheep's clothing lol. ;-)

Piloth The Mack · piloth@zeroid.biton Feb 06, 2019Reply

@Eightyfour: Someone has made a block list. Let me do a couple of things and then i will post the link for you

Realjohndoe · realjohndoe@zeroid.biton Feb 06, 2019Reply

WOW! mute is Awesome!!! That bitch motherfucker is Gone! :-)

Eightyfour · eightyfour@zeroid.biton Feb 06, 2019Reply

@Realjohndoe: I muted them, but it'd just be more convenient if there was a community-driven spam blocklist to subscribe to.

Realjohndoe · realjohndoe@zeroid.biton Feb 06, 2019Reply

I want to test mute. I think mute will do. :-)
