20 years on from 1st broadcast, still one of the best TV shows (not just scifi) around IMHO. Some thoughts, links, videos etc here: + [klu9's media share - ***Farscape***](http://127.0.0.1:43110/1NEuAUKgUoY6fnXeXBaonjrDfNbfpQpdMp/?Post:18:Farscape)

What's on your reading list?

Banks_ - **Neptune's Brood** by _Charles Stross_ - **Rapture of the Nerds** by _Cory Doctorow & Charles Stross_ - ~~**A Deepness in the Sky**~~ by _Vernor Vinge_ - read it. - **Halting State** by _Charles Stross_ - **Leviathan Wakes** by _James S. A. Corey_ (see: [**the Expanse**](http://127.0.0.1:43110/1BrgXu4E6jzdtvwec9oEU5Fir7355yeJF3/?Topic:2_1CMYxdit4qq9QGk9DYRu2ruRPd2YDGckH8/The+Expanse)) **edit:** in the comments there was talk about [**Accelerando**](http://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/fiction/accelerando/accelerando-intro.html) by Charles Stross. Anon - Worse SciFi Netflix movie ever

I don't know where to start, it is not a movie, is just a weird voyeuristic sexual fantasy about a gray world with people with gray lives, and some monochrome graphics, where you can see people having sex through their eyes. The movie only try to keep the spectator watching with the promise that the protagonist, a middle age policeman will get laid the sexy young hacker. That resumes all the movie, at least the first half. I didn't saw the second half yet.

Westworld: The Secret Behind the Park [Spoiler Free]

I just saw Episode 02 Season 02. What a twist! I don't want to spoil you, but they explain a little small detail about the park that changes everything. And is so grounded on the current times with Internet and Social Media. Is like the script where written just a few weeks ago! And it was so obvious. The Creators of the Show played this card well.

Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams (TV series 2017- )

IMDB: "A sci-fi anthology series with stand-alone episodes based on the works of Philip K. Dick." Do you watch it? If yes, how do you like it?

Star Trek: The Original Series

I used to watch it with my father (and sometimes with my mother, too). Some people complains about the cheap effects and even "bad acting", but I really appreciate most of the episodes even nowadays. What are your thoughts and feelings on Star Trek: TOS?

Ghost in the Shell (1994) and GITS:Stand Alone Complex (2002-2003)

Strong recommendation for these works! I was struck by how relevant these ideas are today. SAC's first season is about how ideas and misinformation spreads within a mass-networked society to twist a group's ideologies into something unintended by the original, and the second season is about the political fallout of a refugee crisis. As Fiora writes on twitter, there are also some interesting themes of people becoming less human and robots becoming more human. Very good stuff!

The Expanse (2015-)

Imdb: Two hundred years in the future, in a fully colonized solar system, police detective Josephus Miller (Thomas Jane), who was born in the asteroid belt, is given the assignment to find a missing young woman; Julie Mao (Florence Faivre). Meanwhile, James Holden (Steven Strait), the first officer of an ice freighter, is witness to an unprovoked attack upon the ship, by craft believed to be from Mars (MCRN Federation). As news of the attack spreads throughout the system, the incident's flow-on threatens to destabilize already tenuous relations between Earth, Mars and The Belt. Far away from the struggles in deep space, on Earth, Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo), a powerful United Nations executive and diplomat, works to prevent war between Earth and Mars by any means. Soon, the 3 find out the missing woman and the ice freighter's fate are part of a vast covert conspiracy which threatens all humanity. I've got really in to this series. It satisfies my inner Sci-fi fan that wants to space travel. I love the series. I fully recommend this. What are your thought about this series. Have you seen it? What do you like about the series?

Westworld

I want to know what are your opinions on WestWorld. So far I like it a lot. It's a new series on HBO. Littlebit info about WestWorld from Wikipedia: Westworld isn't your typical amusement park. Intended for rich vacationers, the futuristic park -- which is looked after by robotic "hosts" -- allows its visitors to live out their fantasies through artificial consciousness. No matter how illicit the fantasy may be, there are no consequences for the park's guests, allowing for any wish to be indulged. "Westworld" -- which is based on the 1973 Michael Crichton movie of the same name -- features an all-star cast that includes Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins and Golden Globe winner Ed Harris.

Snowcrash [1992]

Have you read it? It's a great Cyberpunk novel by Neal Stephenson. It's also the origin of the word 'Avatar' as we use it in the context of the internet. It was written before there was an actual internet (comparable to today's infrastructure). So Stephenson invented his own kind of Virtual Reality where people meet and talk and conspire. His vision for the future of the United States is somewhat scary and brilliant. You also get probably the best name for a protagonist/hero ever in this book. So... I really liked it. Stephenson has a very exciting way of writing which makes the book one 'helluva trip'. Snowcrash is a must read when it comes to non-space-opera/cyberpunk SciFi. So for the people who don't know it - listen to R.E.A.S.O.N. and read it!

Welcome to 0/scifi

This shall become a 'subzero' ( a zeronet subreddit) for everything related to science fiction. Please feel at home here! I'd like to think of this forum as a sub (a 'subzero') to ZeroTalk. So if we create something very cool in here, maybe this forum could later be added directly on zerotalk. (Right now there are different languages directly associated on the left.) In the coming days, I'd like to change the colors and all the rest a bit in order to give this forum a unique (but still simple) look. If you have suggestions, write them down.

What are some "stealthy" SciFi films?

There are two films, that are in my opinion actually SciFi, although they lack the appearance usually associated with it. First the Film "Groundhog Day" comes to mind. It revolves around a strange plot element - Bill Murray's character lives through the same day over and over again. The films now goes on to show us all the interesting outcomes and consequences that unfold because of this. it could just as easy be the plot of a SciFi film, where a character is put in this situation because of some technology. In fact the more recent film "Edge Of Tomorrow" was the exact plot device used in Groundhog Day - only in an (excellent!) SciFi action film. Here it was explained through some kind of alien technology. The second great film not obviously scifi is "Her". It's a film about artificial intelligence and how it (will) change(s) the the behavior of us humans. The reason it doesn't appear so scifi, is the simplicity in it's pictures. Also, all technology is reduced to the bare minimum. In the case of Samantha it is reduced to just a voice. The film is excellent in exploring the impact of such a development. Also [Spoilers] that Samantha as all the other AI OS' eventually outgrow humanity and seemingly transcend to a much higher level of intelligence unreachable by normal humans. Do you know some films (or maybe also books) that also fit this category of "actually scifi, but not looking like it" ?

Classic Star Trek

I just finished watching the original run of Star Trek. I understand now why it had such a strong following. I'm scared to start watching TNG. I know it's just as good, but I don't know if I can accept a captain who isn't James T. Kirk.

I've been getting into William Gibson recently, I read Neuromancer first and I recently finished Idoru. I'm really enjoying his books, it's kind of mind blowing how accurate many of his predictions turned out to be.

The Stranger Things thread

Assuming everyone saw this series already, so SPOILERS HERE!!! Anyhow, where do you think they'll go with season 2? I've read that it will be a continuation, which makes sense as they left a few things hanging at the end of the first season. Especially with Will, and the brief flash into the "Upside Down".

Deus Ex?

The new game is coming out soon, discussion thread? Hype, comments, talk about this one, HR, original, whatever. Personally, I'm very excited, but worried their focus on making it more fun/action packed might take away from the stealth game play I love in the series.

Could unexplained time travel make a movie Sci Fi?

I can understand that magical time travel would be Fantasy, and that using computers/technology to time travel makes a movie Sci Fi, but what about if the time travel is unexplained, would that be Fantasy or would it also fit under Sci Fi?

Fire Upon The Deep [1992]

I loved that book. It's a space opera novel from [Vernor Vinge](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vernor_Vinge). It's one of these books, that throw you into a slight depression when you finish it. Besides some stunning ideas, the book is filled with loveable characters. I highly recommend you read it.

Your thoughts on Batman V Superman (Spoilers)

There was Batman part of the movie, Superman part of the movie and fighting scenes. I liked Superman part and the fighting parts most because I've seen batman origin like from 5 different ways and from different actors. I didn't like the first half of the movie but the second half was action packed and more to my liking. My favorite part of the movie was when Bruce opens Lex Luthor's files witch he stole few scenes ago. In the files he discovers Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman etc. Files are sneak peek to future films from the DC. I got goose bumps when I saw Wonder Woman on the big for the first time. All in all it was a good movie. I'll give it 80% on Rotten Tomatoes scale. Now I just need to wait a year to this to continues. But First I need to see Wonder Woman -movie next year. :D So what are your thoughts on the movie. Oh and this was copy paste form my page.
